Willy is right too in that we have ice cream stores on the North, East and South sides serving the community. That's pretty good coverage compared to lots of towns. I think Ottawa has 2 and Pontiac only 1 ice cream shops. Too bad Scoops is closed so far this season. It really is a beautiful store and central location next to the park. With Streator's declining population, it is not a surprise that we may not be able to support as many ice cream shops as we had. I've been trying to convince people to stop telling others to leave just because they talk about wanting things done differently; declining population has bad effects on our community. We have seen a decline in the numbers of other businesses as well, the only local real estate office centrally located, next to the park remains vacant too. There was talk of the park improvements being done to bring more people downtown, talk of the large tax payer funded project being economic development. Shouldn't that make these places that are so close more valuable as businesses than vacant buildings? The ice cream shop must not have seen much benefit from the newly renovated park and bandshell that the City spent so much of our money on, right across the street. Shouldn't being right across the street from such a large economic development investment have already had the real estate office sold? The City could buy it for less than one tenth of what it would cost to take care of just the A/C at the current City Hall that they say has a list of other problems. Maybe they should just go back to the old City Hall.
