I have seen two posters make references to the state being broke having an effect on SSDI benefits and eligibility.
The Social Security Administration is a federal agency.

Yes the ssdi is a federal agency. But because of how broke the state is there was talk about dropping ssi not the ssdi. Which means the people that are on ssi will be dropped unless they qualify for full disability. And which that does make it harder for people that are applying for ssdi harder to get approved. But at the same time there are people that are capable of worker and would rather take advantange of disability and that is why the government is making it harder to give out the disability to people and another reason why they are talking about dropping ssi.

Evidently some posters don't realize if they are milking a federal or state cow.
From Wiki...
"Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a United States government program that provides stipends to low-income people who are either aged (65 or older), blind, or disabled.[1] Although administered by the Social Security Administration,[2] SSI is funded from the U.S. Treasury general funds,[1] not the Social Security trust fund. SSI was created in 1974 to replace federal-state adult assistance programs that served the same purpose. The restructuring of these programs was intended to standardize the eligibility requirements and level of benefits.[3] The new federal program was incorporated into Title XVI (Title 16) of the Social Security Act.[4] Today the program provides benefits to approximately eight million Americans."
"Social Security Disability Insurance (SSD or SSDI) is a payroll tax-funded, federal insurance program of the United States government. It is managed by the Social Security Administration and is designed to provide income supplements to people who are physically restricted in their ability to be employed because of a notable disability, usually a physical disability. SSD can be supplied on either a temporary or permanent basis, usually directly correlated to whether the person's disability is temporary or permanent.
Unlike Supplemental Security Income (SSI), SSD does not depend on the income of the disabled individual receiving it. A "legitimately" (i.e. according to the Americans with Disabilities Act, and via other similar legal and medical backing) disabled person of any income level can theoretically receive SSD. Most SSI recipients are below an administratively-mandated income threshold, and indeed these individuals must in fact stay below that threshold to continue receiving SSI; but this is not the case with SSD."
Now.....where does the state of IL or any other state have anything to do with SSI or SSDI ?

I never saw anything of this on both the states website and social security website. Never seen or heard about this on the news either. Provide link to this story please.

Now.....where does the state of IL or any other state have anything to do with SSI or SSDI ? There is a limit on ssdi/ssd that only allows a person monthly income max of $800 before they deduct your ssdi/ssd amount. Means anyone who's income is above $800 will either have their payments reduced or stopped completely . $800 is the max of earned income you can make before cutting your benefits. I got my ssa letter to prove that.

Good for you c/p. Now only if these god d**n employers would get off their asses and start putting people back to work including people on ssd ssdi and ssi and welfare hiring them "full born americans"not illegal immigrants, you would have less people on any of these systems. But they choose illegal immigrants to hire over American people ,which is why so many americans are applying for any of these programs to be able to survive.

Once you are FINALLY considered eligible and granted Disability does NOT mean you will automatically receive benefits for life or until you've paid what the government deems fair as to what you've paid in.
Every so many months you're physical / mental status is reevaluated. It is entirely up to the physician(s) that deems you to be physically/mentally unable to hold a job, ANY JOB.
Be prepared for CHANGES and SAVE financially what you can NOW. We live in an unstable economy and according to our government;
NOTHING IS WRITTEN IN STONE !

One correction. It's every seven years that the government makes an evaluation on ssdi. But you are very correct on that nothing is written in stone. I did remember several months back that I read that the government is cutting ssi program. The government is already cutting link and taking link away from people completely.

My friend finally received her letter from disability. She was denied. According to the letter, my friend could find a job that is light duty.

Have your friend take that letter too a Layer, and the Layer will fight for Her rights........if She qualifies that is, the Layer will fight every angle. And if She wins, the Layer will take 20% of the first check She receives.

Their are lawyers that will do this free of charge called pro bono's or prairie states legal services. There is another agency law firm that strictly helps disabled people free but cannot remember the name of the law firm.

You can not expect too much from lawyers, period, unless they are making decent amount of money. And disability lawyers, really don't make all the much. I've learned my lessen on the attorney that assisted me on my inheritance. I did end up receiving the house that we paid for. But did not receive any thing else that I was suppose to get. And on top of that, the attorney, that I had, told me one thing to my face and ended up not being so, on a few things. But the point being, unless an attorney is able to make a decent amount of money, they either will not make an effort or will not take the case. There again, with Prairie State lawyers will not make much of an effort, because they are not making too much.
