Isn't there some kind of ordinance that prohibits one from tethering their dog in the front yard?...Just watched the neighbors dog (not a friendly one)almost break its cable trying to get to the mailman, who crossed the street because he's obviously afraid of being attacked...I've spoken to the landlord about this dog, the mailman has voiced his concerns about this dog, yet this dog is tethered out front every day...Hopefully, it won't be someones child that suffers the consequences of the dog owners irresponsibility...

as long as it is on a restraint its legal to keep it there. if the mailman is threatened by the dog he can stop delivering mail at that house until which time the dog is placed inside or in the backyard. I agree the dog should be some where else all together if its aggressive.

I thought that an ordinance was passed last year prohibiting folks from tethering their dogs where they could pose a threat...This dog is very aggressive, the yard is not fenced in, and it's not "if", it's "when" this dog will attack someone...I'm in the unfortunate position of having to live next door to them, I've had to put up with dog crap in my yard along with the threat the animal poses...The owner has been letting it run loose in the back yard recently, which is simply asking for something drastic to happen...I've mentioned it to the landlord several times to no avail...All I can say at this point is I hope the landlord has excellent insurance, because they KNOW the dog is aggressive and have done nothing...

I would never consider poisoning an animal with anti-freeze... That being said, I will be contacting Animal Control on Monday to see what protections I'm afforded as their neighbor...What I can do when their dog craps on my lawn, and they don't bother cleaning it up for months, etc... I have my own renters insurance for my safety and protection, I'm quite sure they don't...I'm also fairly sure the landlord doesn't have enough coverage to house such a dangerous animal...

That's what I thought as well, can't be out all the time. Our dog goes out on tie line to potty for short periods is all and I try not to at the time the mail carrier comes around but if so I watch and immediately go out

I don't get the times press paper every day of the week but there could have been a change in the law. I do remember they were asking people to tether their animals in the backyard when the mailman was going to be in the area. the best possible answer would come from city hall since they have answers concerning the codes. it`s not the animals fault as much as an irresponsible owner.

The mailman was the one who reminded me of the ordinance, guess it needs enforced... The thing with tethering in any fashion is, by law, one must be in control of their animals when they're outdoors...If ones dog is tethered, and it breaks loose, the owner is clearly not in control of the animal... There have been far too many instances where someones children have been mauled/killed by dogs that aren't being controlled...This dog is large, very strong, and their chintzy little cable will end up snapping one day...I just hope it's not when I'm outside...

I don't have a backyard to tether my dogs since I live on a corner lot. I do have a fenced in area where my dogs can go out and run a long side my house and in the front. I try to make sure my pets are in the house whenever I know the mailman will be in my area. the owners have to be smarter then their pets but it seems like the pets are the smarter animals in some houses. we have a certain house in our neighborhood that lets their dog run loose at nights. it has been violent towards other dogs in the past but no charges have been brought against the owners by the city.

"Within the lot lines of the premises occupied by a dog's owner, dogs shall be on a leash or shall be kept inside a fenced and secure enclosure."
A "leash" is NOT a "tether"...A leash means there is a human at the other end to control the animal...This is where I have a problem, they "tether" the dog and go inside...I plan in suggesting to the landlord that they make them build an enclosure, or get rid of the dog...I will be reminding them of this ordinance, and my plan to pursue enforcement... Thanks for posting the info...

Mean dogs should be removed from the general public. There is a place for them, I guess, junk yard dogs. Sounds like that one needs a nice long drink of anti-freeze. Too bad the dog's owner is so irresponsible. I have no idea why some people think it's cool to have an intimidating dog. Long drink of antifreeze? That's mean and hilarious at the same time. We should get together for a couple of beers sometime! Lol

Who are these people oldtimer? I would think that you would know them, it sounds like they are fellow club members exercising their immunity from our laws. Maybe a relation of one of our city administration?
