A few years back when I was in the factory, I was lucky to bring home half of what I was paid. Taxes, Child Support, Union Dues, Social Security. If you are working a good paying job, but the work conditions/hours suck and you only take home half of what you are paid......well.....it sure takes away the incentive to endure the work. I should have bought a farm or something....anything....Generate a short term loss so you could recoup some of the taxes they take, but buy a long term asset that will be worth something when you finally pay it off. As for the local casino....I think they have a limit to the number of machines in one place. 4 or 5 machines max.....pretty sure. (5) I believe.

I never thought of Oaklawn Park for a Casino. But I think it could work except for the parking space though.

There's an idea to fill the downtown buildings...each owner put in 5 machines. Each building can sell a special food item. Fill the downtown like the Vegas strip.

They were there for the home made rootbeer!! DELICIOUS! LOL, we DO like good Root Beer. The frosty glass mugs were always especially good. The cardboard cone quarts from Silverfross....not so much, just something about the old waxed cardboard that was yucky. I always thought Woody's was the best root beer in town! Jodie's did have it's own recipe that was delicious, though.

For one, Thrifty drugs store can start off for a casino. There also another restaurant, I think it was a Chinese place at one time, that I think can be another place for a casino, then jump over where JCPenneys was at ect. Streator could be a booming place for gambling. Just kidding but at the same time could be a good income for Streator at the same time. Just a thought. Instead of having bars in this town it could change into a gambling town.

I had no idea they had Root Beer. I thought you were just kidding. I used to do some business with some of the taverns in town. One time when Mark Johnson still owned Bootleggers, he showed some of us the old Jodi's Cigar Store. He had just bought it I guess. It still had the old shoe shine stations and all kinds of junk/treasures in the basement. Sometimes I wonder what is lurking in some of our old downtown buildings. Do you suppose there are any old dental chairs/equipment in the old Streator National Bank building? yes there is the old dentist chair in the streator national bank for i use to clean there. and seen it
