If everyone would pay their fair share on taxes and quit trying to find ways to pay less or none at all, we would have our debt paid down quite abit. But that will never happen and people will still keep on b*tching about our debt being so high. Rocket, how much are you actually paying in taxes? If you receive any type of government assistance, then even if you work, you are getting all the taxes you paid in back at the end of the year. Thus, paying none.

Thus, paying none. Taxes have become so numerous and so heavy we don't even realize it anymore. Every gallon of gas you use, every item you purchase, seemingly every utility bill we pay are all taxed. ALL that and so much more, it isn't JUST property tax and income tax. You can't hardly turn around without some kind of user fees, use tax, registration, etc. We just had our legislature pass the 'everything that floats tax'. They wisely backed down from including 'tubes' as needing to be taxed as well. License plates went up recently, don't be surprised to see new taxes and increases wherever they think they can get by with it. Masked Man, you are correct! There are taxes on top of taxes!! LOL There is only one other state with more taxing bodies than Illinois and that's California. Illinois is a very "needy state" with everyone having their hand out. There is enough money in this state to operate without all the taxes. We just have a bunch of knuckleheads in Springfield who would rather pass tanning bed regulations than pass school funding reform!

I agree MM...I was referring to income tax though. I've had one relative tell me (we debate this all the time) "Well, yes I do pay taxes, I work!" They forgot to add though that at the end of the year they get every penny paid in back plus 5 -10 thousand extra for earned income credit. NO....they don't pay income taxes. Plus factor in the 10k a year for food stamps they get plus the free medical...not a bad gig.

One of our Founding Fathers once said: Government can not give anything to anyone that it does not first take from someone else. Wise words that we should all think about. I guess it's too bad we don't have more American Indians, we already took an entire continent from them and gave it to homesteaders and the Railroad. How much longer can our current system survive with all the takers and fewer in a position to give. Oh well, just bust out a few more trillion. The United States of America is past the average time that a democracy lasts. It's certainly showing it's age over the past 10 years. Our current President is also testing it's age. I wonder what type of country this will be in 75 years? Scary thought!

Now, I'm starting to think that those who bust their asses day in and day out are the idiots! Why go through all the crap we do and get up and get ready and go to work? Maybe I should join them on the couch? The lazy asses who don't work have been right all along....

I played a machine the other night. I put in $5. Big spender, I know. I cashed out for $10. Doubled my money. According to the state figures though I spent another $9.25 by playing off winnings. Most were for 1 or 2 pair which paid back a quarter of fifty cents. So the state records would show $14.25 spent when only $5 was actual cash put in the machine.

With all empty building here in Streator, Why doesn't someone just open a casino here in this town? NorthPoint plaza has empty space to start a casino. Just a thought though.

The Northpoint Plaza parking lot would fall into that sink hole the shopping center is built on with all the weight from all the cars that would be at that casino! Not a good idea to put it there!

Well, maybe not exactly at North Point. But maybe even tear down a building downtown and build a new building to put in a casino or Someone may have a better though or idea where to locate a casino here in town. Maybe the people that bought the Masonic temple could start a casino in that building. Just a thought.

If you go to the state website one of the columns shows the real amount played and the amount payed out
