Helping people, to avoid births they can't manage, is acceptable to my morality also. But, as it is, we'll be paying higher for insurance to provide, granny's like me, with the coverage to see me through pregnancy and to provide me breast pumps. This situation of health care is as absurd as I would ever have imagined, and now I'm imagining how much worse it can become. Just finished talking to a friend same age as I am, and they have a very small business, and have always had castastrophic coverage for themselves, well now that won't be allowed with the new health system, so she was attempting to see what is down the road for them. The situation they have won't allow them to retire anytime soon, so they are being forced to live by the standards for their health care, by the choices of..... who??? is my question. The entire system seems ridiculous to me. As we've said before, the inmates are truly running the assylum.

The government supplies free birth control. You can go to the LaSalle County Health Department and get free condoms. Just walk in and ask.

Fyi: link card benefits are being reduced starting tomorrow. Then onto cutting more link benefits to reduce the budget. Right now with a family of four, they will lose $36.00. And when they do further cuts in the near future,it would be pointless to even get a link card. Can't live on less than a $100.00 a month. Also been hearing some talk that congress may also look at possibly ending food stamps altogether. Oh my god, what will everyone do? 2 things I can think of would be starve to death or a rise on shoplifting food. I can see armed guards at walmart and krogers to make sure no one walks out with food. All I can say is what about the elderly or disabled who rely on food stamps? I understand that people don't actually use them as they should but for the elderly and disabled they really need those to survive. I think if you are able bodied you should be in a program that requires you to look for work to keep getting anything from the government ie. food stamps, cash aid, or housing. That along with drug testing would take away a lot of the for mentioned programs from a wide variety of people.

I think every boy and girl that reaches puberty should be fixed not to have kids. Then unfix them to have kids when they reach adulthood and they can prove they can financially afford it to raise them on their own without any taxpayer assistance. If not,no kids. It costs almost $300,000.00 per kid from birth to age 18. No one should be breeding if you are not earning a min of $60,000 and up a year. Since that earning is way up there, you know then with that scenario ,people would have to stop breeding. Cause you can't hardly even find those kind of high waged jobs anymore.

how about this ... say you have one child and apply for food stamps and you get it the law should state that if you have another child while on food stamps you lose it! That would save a ton of money right there and you wouldnt have the trash breeding there soon to be government assisted children.

Nice post^^^^^^^^^ It has not only created a sense of entitlement, it has completely reinforced that concept that may have already been present. It seems as if it has 'mainstreamed welfare'. How come no one likes those 'dirty words'? "Welfare", "Beggar", "Bums" OK, OK, OK I am NOT calling anyone that receives assistance beggars and bums. I am just saying that it seems like a lot of people had a little more pride than to so readily accept help years ago. Now we have so many people that not only just take it if they qualify, (may as well, RIGHT?) but they seem to know the system so well, that they play it so they can get all they can. Go rent the movie 'Cinderella Man' Great movie based on a true story. One part of the story that is very touching is when the main character is so far down and out, electricity is off, family is hungry, and family is so shattered that they are to the point of sending the kids to live with relatives, he finally swallows his pride and goes on 'assistance'. This is an absolute last resort for him. He is the kind of man that would rather eat shoe leather before asking the government for help, but he has to. As soon as he gets just a little money ahead, he goes back to the assistance office and returns any money they paid him. He is just that kind of a man. It's a great movie, and that is just a small sub-plot of the story. I know it is just a movie, but I think it characterizes more of the attitude that was prevailing just a few decades ago. My how things have changed....... I'll have to watch the movie, sounds good, and the sad part is, it's happening to everyone if not soon enough thank you Obama- politicians for the third world.

Boys and girls, men and women,if you feel the sexual urge,2 choices abstinence or masturbation. Don't breed if you cannot financially raise to care for that baby on your own without the help from taxpayers. The pill or condoms are NOT 100% against pregnancy. For those young ladies from 13 to 21,if you don't have a good paying job to financially support having a baby ,forget about having one. It pisses me off on these talk shows how these young girls come out and say they plan to find a guy to have a one night stand with to have a baby and no job to support it. Why?, cause they say they love babies. Wtf!That's not a good reason to have one,You need a job to support it ! They have no clue what single mothers go thru and no daddy around to help. It's these people that really need to be fixed permanently.

I know there are too many people that abuse the system and I hate it too, but some people should not be so judgmental of others. I am sure there are many that work hard (or want to) and are no more proud of needing to rely on public assistance than Cinderella Man.
I just read a Facebook post from one of our former employees at the Majestic, a hard working, responsible young lady. While she was waiting in line at Aldi's yesterday with her daughter, a rude old man behind her started making comments about her using a link card on the first day available, having to love the first of the month, etc.
Like I said, she is a responsible, hard worker, as is the father of her baby. They both work and do not have a link card, she did as she always does and used cash to pay for her groceries.
She ended her post #rottenassold man. If I would have been in line to hear him, he would have gotten a few different words from me.

The way I see it, it's NOBODY'S place to judge anyone...
How many have lost their jobs, their savings, etc... over the past few years of a stagnate economy?... How many new employers have opened up here in town?...How many of the jobs available here are sufficient enough to support someone, let alone a family?...
I don't agree with blatant abuse of the system but, let's face it, there are abuses committed everywhere... Employers have been allowed to abuse their employees by cutting their hours and denying raises... The government is abusing tax payers with more than just LINK, we pay for studies of sea turtles in other countries...
But to sit back and judge others who may not be as fortunate as you is, in itself, it's own form of abuse...

Question.....when these people that have not worked most of their life get old enough to "retire", they won't get social security....right?

I dont have a clue how it works, but given the state of the assistance programs out there, going to Social Security would be like a pay cut for them. Seriously, that is a good question, I would like to know that too.

Well MaskedMan, I'm truly sorry that all you CHOOSE to see are those who abuse the system...Maybe you should expand the peripheral on your "minds eye" and see the sad reality it has become for some...
While I agree that nobody "owes" anyone a job, I disagree when you include the word "raise" in that sentence...If you've worked for an employer whose policies/benefits include EARNED periodic raises, but they deny them to you, you are being abused...
I also don't support those who spew out offspring like rabbits, and expect others to foot the bill...But here in Streator, like in many other places, the teen pregnancy rate is astronomical...THAT is what should be focused on, because there certainly aren't enough jobs to accommodate those needs here either...
As far as people having carts full of expensive cuts of meat, you may want to rethink your position there as well...I know of people who shop the "bargain meat" section so they can stretch their budgets...I also know that a good chunk of any meat can often provide more than 1 single meal...
Like most, I've worked my fanny off for what I have...But I'm not so jaded that I can't appreciate those who are struggling...Lumping all recipients into that category, which seems to be the common denominator on this thread, is simply ignorant...I don't wish hard times on anybody, nor will I make assumptions of those who may not have things as good as I do...

When I get an application for employment turned in to me at work, I can always tell who's drawing unemployment. They always "forget" to leave a telephone number.
