Ok, I've heard that The Town and Country Inn has new owners.
Can anyone shed some light? Has it been improved with new ownership? I might have a larger event in Streator that would have out of towners staying the night. I'm a little leery of having it in Streator as the accomodations are, well, less than desirable!

I can't add much to this topic other than to say, I have noticed they've made some improvements on the exterior of the building. It caught my eye when I was driving past the other day. It made me hopeful that more positive changes are in store for it.

My event is in March. I'm thinking of using the Silver Fox, but I'll need a place for out of towners to stay. I can't ask them to stay at the hotel by Pizza Hut or at the Town and Country UNLESS the T & C has made some improvements!

My aunt was in from out of state and had reservations at the T&C, she went and checked in and immediately checked out and stayed by the one by Pizza Hut. She said the room was horrible, nasty, and dirty. This was just a few weeks ago.

I know residents that don't have a house or apartments live there. Most likely on monthly basis.

I thought the new owners were working on cleaning and repairing the place. Perhaps your room was one that hadn't been done yet. I would imagine it would take some time. You are right though, we don't have good motels in Streator. Had to spend the night at super 8 (when that is what it was) when we had bathroom plumbing being replaced and we were given a room that hadn't been cleaned from the previous guest! They did give us another room immediately and were apologetic but still. It's not in that chain anymore but isn't it still the same management running it?

Are there any nice bed and breakfasts in town? There's a thing called google. I put in 61364 bed & breakfast and came up with a few in Ottawa and one in Pontiac. If you go to our tourism website, there are only three listed in Utica. I guess people that open those types of businesses also have more business sense than me. Either that or because people don't want to come to Streator to see people fight in the streets and pull their pants down, there isn't enough business to support one?

Either that or because people don't want to come to Streator to see people fight in the streets and pull their pants down, there isn't enough business to support one? Tunnel vision. People do come to Streator. I ran into a former coworker the other day while shopping at Kroger. She lives in Ottawa. When I expressed surprise that she was shopping in Streator, she replied she comes to town to buy at McGraths. I have to say, I'm not denying that someone who lives across the street from a bar is going to see more than I see living across the town from it. I can say that as a regular customer of many downtown establishments, none of which are bars, I have never seen fights or people peeing when I'm shopping down there. Oldtimer, I don't believe there are any bed and breakfasts in town anymore.

I remember staying at The Pines back in the 80's. When I pulled the sheets back on the bed, they were Speed Racer sheets! From then on, I told my friends to ask for the Speed Racer Room if they were ever going to stay at The Pines!
