I just went and checked out both hotels in town this week as my brother is coming home soon. Checked out rooms and both have clean rooms similar design scheme. The one by Pizza Hut is $60 a night, has a fitness room, and free breakfast daily. Have a pool but is closed as they are upgrading it. Workers both days i was there were very nice. Rooms have a desk table with chair, tv, fridge, micro, and sofa chair. Free wifi.
The Town n Country is $65. Rooms had just been redone and were clean. Room was more cramped than at the Budget inn but ok. Desk with chair, fridge, n micro. Free wifi. No free breakfast, no pool, no fitness room. Guy was hard to understand but very polite.
I chose the Budget inn for my brother since the breakfast will be nice to have and he likes a fitness area for him and the wife. Like i said both rooms and personnel were nice but the budget inn seemed a little more roomy. If you have questions just go there... they both want the business and will show you the rooms.

Well that was a very informative preliminary review of each.
Thanks Kaycee
I knew someone that is particular and was leery but stayed at the Budget, he said it was actually not bad at all.

When I first read this a week ago I thought the prices quoted seemed awfully high but kept my thoughts to myself. $60 to $65 per night just seems like a lot of money for someone in Streator for a place with no real amenities. I thought, well maybe prices really are that high now and remained silent. Since that time, I passed by the Motel 6 in both Normal and Joliet and noticed that the advertised price on the sign was $39.99. No idea if they give you Corn Flakes in the morning for that price or not. I can maybe see $60 for the newest motel in town when there are no real alternatives if they include a basic breakfast IF the pool were available and a few amenities. $65 for the old T&C and the condition it is in, well.....it would make me question why exactly they are trying so hard to have no business. If you clearly have smaller older rooms (even if they are recently updated) you would have to offer a bit of a discount to try to attract customers. The rooms are cheaper in Normal and Joliet because there is more competition. In Streator, there are two places to stay, take it or leave it. You can pay $60 or you can drive over to Ottawa and maybe pay $49? The cost of gas and wear and tear on my car makes that a wash. If I want a pool, I guess I might drive over to Ottawa, but if I just need a place to rest my head I'll stay in Streator so I don't have to drive and incur the gas expense and the wear and tear on my car. If we had 6 or 7 places to stay then there would be some serious deals going on!

I agree Oldtimer that there is more competition, but there are also higher expenses. The ground under that motel just off the Interstate costs a LOT of money. They pay a LOT in taxes. I understand they compete to get the business that is out there, but they can't do it so low that they can't operate with a decent profit. I know the operators in town don't have a whopping business. It's Streator, not so many guests coming to town any given day. They have to run it the best way they see fit, but if T&C doesn't have better rates, who would choose to stay there? Small wonder the lot is usually pretty empty with those kinds of rates. First of all, there are only so many people in the immediate area that are in the market for a place to stay. Then, you have to take into account how many places there are in your area. Then you go and figure out pricing within your town and towns close by. Both the Town and County and The Super 8 aren't getting rich, but they're both keeping their doors open. So, like I said, when you compare that you can get a room in Bloomington for $39, as you say, then if I'm in the market for a hotel room I have to weigh if it's worth my time and gas and wear and tear on my car to drive all that way to save $20. I say no. On the other side of the coin, if the Streator motels charged the same as Bloomington they wouldn't see a big increase in stays. Again, there are only so many people in Streator or in visiting who are in the market for a hotel! And, they have to be careful not to be too cheap. Then they start attracting the crowd that stays by the week and month at the Pines.

The manager has been doing alot of painting and repairs on the building. I can say rooms are clean. The housekeeper also has been shampooing and deep cleaning alot of the rooms. But one suggestion though. If having family talk to the manager because he is an america and his helper don't speak english all that well.
