What is your best memory of Streator? Maybe it's a store, something in a store, an event, a person, etc.
There are soooo many, but I'll say...
The PNA Picnic!

When I was a little girl my gramma would pick me up on Friday nights and we would go to Silverfross for a dinner of tenderloin baskets and rootbeer, I still remember the orange lights in the tree and her glove box opened and had a place to put the drink, yes those are the days I miss!

I miss fishing at the dam, skating at the roller rink and although I was young when it closed I miss the drive-in, sitting in the chairs by snack bar or playing on the swings watching the movies. Well I usually only made it threw one movie then I was passed out in the back of the chevette. Oh I can't forget those 80s parties with live bands at Marrilla.

My best memory of Streator is Owens Illinois running the Owens side and the Flow side and 3,000 people working. I remember when Owens hired 800 kids in the summer to give employees time off for a vacation and I remember when Thatcher Glass employeed 1,000 people. Those were the days. At Christmas every merchant in Streator sold their entire stock by Christmas Eve. If you went Christmas shopping at the last minute, you didn't have much choice.
To me, these were the days I long for today. Anyone can get a good tenderloin today at some of our restaurants.

PNA Picnic was great when it was at Oakland. I remember my mom taking us downtown on Friday nights shopping. All of the stores would be open. Woody's cheeseburgers were the best. Cruise Night in the 80's.
