I think Terry and John have done a pretty good job on S. Vermillion.
I remember what it used to look like there.
Back too the building on topic...
Usually there is always someone on SO who has the info on Streator buildings, but I guess I came up with a question that has stumped even the born and raised here crowd. I will do the homework myself to find out who the owner is.
Does anyone know what the address is though?
There is nothing posted.
Maybe our City should enact an ordinance requiring building owners to have an address posted in case of an emergency.
If there were a fire or something, someone reporting it may not know how to tell others where it is located.

Are you looking for the owner for 110 N Monroe. The owner of Gayle's Monroe tap?

No, not the Monroe Tap.
There is a separate building behind the Tap and the new Farmers Insurance office that opened in the old Hart building.

The city owns 220 E Main. That building even has an old sign in the back. Shouldn't that have to come down, under the sign ordinance?

Kyle should be placeed in charge of the "Neighborhood Watch Program" in Streator.
His "Eye in the Sky" certainly seems to keep the SPD busy in his Neighborhood.
He also seems to "drone" on and on about what keeps other businesses out of Streator, and for the old "Streator National Bank" building from becoming a much needed hotel is................................ Drum Roll......................................................!
Yes, it's an Aquaponics Facility, at the location of his choice!

Our city who has really been cracking down on owners of vacant buildings and is talking about adding even more restrictions on commercial building owners, certainly would not keep a building that is in this shape, and create this type of image for downtown. Would they? I found a picture of the other side: I'm glad you bring up the sign (not that I wouldn't have anyway). When the big diagonal sign was removed from the Murray Building, as is required by our ordinances when a business is closed, I believe it de-valued that building by at least $10,000. They had a crane and lift trucks out there for hours, torching and grinding to get it down. I wonder how much it cost Streator National Bank to de-value their building. The sign on this building could probably be removed with just a step ladder and a hammer in about 5 minutes. Certainly our city wouldn't make that very nice looking, irreplaceable, professional sign come down and allow this thing stay up unless the business was open, would they? Seriously though, who really does own this building?

I think it may actually be a business in there.
Someone told me those were military surplus homing pigeons that we see going in and out of the openings in the building.
It looks like I'm not the only one raising birds downtown!
I'm surprised that the City hasn't already outlawed pigeons, they've been there a lot longer than mine.
At least I keep my birds contained and don't let them crap everywhere, like they do.
I heard those military homing pigeons were really smart, I was thinking about maybe getting a few.
Does anyone know if they can be trained to only crap on people with their pants down?
I will see if I can get some more info, that is if I can ever find a time when that store is actually open.

Kyle, Perhaps you can just read up on the ordances that gives "YOU" the right to decide on what happens with the "depolorable building" you feel is "bringing down poperty values of our down town. How soon do you think that "wreaking ball" should be swinging? Obviously the only "Property Rights" you respect are yours. That is not the way it works. Make your case. g

Some people had a good time talking about how bad they think my work on my building is bringing down property values. I laughed along as they talked about the different things it reminded them of and endured name calling, insults and attacks on my character over it. I just think we should all have just as much fun getting a good laugh with this one. Doesn't this look like it could be a scene from a slum in some third world country? How could some bright colors possibly bring down the property value of this? I think this property is the one bringing down property values, but then again, Otdtimer says that I don't have a clue. Is everyone proud that this is what we see from our post office, City park, Memorial Wall, etc.? When people see this building, will they even get out of their cars to go see the $138,000 fountain in the center of the park?

Kyle, I believe the City Ordinance requires the "Address Numbers" be posted on the buildings so that they readable from the street. After your thorough research of the "City Ordinances" thought perhaps you might find if there is a new "City Ordinance" where the property owner must also do something like write on the sidewalk the "number of chickens on the roof". If not, don't you think it should be explicitly stated in the"City Ordinances" in cased some city services would be required to protect your property? If there is no City Ordinance and the City does not respond to protect your chickens, then after all............then, "No Harm, No Fowl"! g After your t

BaHaHaHaHa, I get it, no fowl instead of foul, because it's chickens.
BaHaHaHaHaHa, that really is funny. You are quite the comedian!
Our city has a vacant building ordinance and registry.
I have heard other building owners talk about it, the expense and problems it has created for them.
These buildings are vacant because there is just no use for them in an area with too many over-served, staggering, passing out, open container carrying and smashing, exposing, urinating, fighting, and mugging bar customers and our city gives possible uses ridiculously extreme restrictions that are not at all justified by our laws.
They charge you $500 to come inspect your building and make a list of all the things they want you to do.
They have a whole list of requirements for the empty buildings with no income.
You must submit a plan for the building that they approve, or they will make one for you.
If you do not do everything they want, they can start charging you up to $750.00 per day, with each day being a separate violation.
I don't see our city doing things to try to help these building owners come up with a use for them or help them fix them up, instead they want to just give them more expenses and hoops to jump through.
Is this building listed on our vacant building registry?
Certainly a plan has been filed for it, what is it?
This one is so bad, it is one of the first ones they should have started with to force the neglectful owners to get it cleaned up.
After all this time though, no progress on it.
Obviously I don't get to decide what is done with this property, greek.
Whoever the owner is, it must be someone who really just has no respect for the image of our downtown, wouldn't you agree?

Why shouldn't I worry about the rest of the downtown? You talked about how you think my building is hurting the values, but I can't talk about one that I think is hurting the value of mine? I'll tell you what, I'll let you pick the color and lead our plea to the owners, are willing to chip in $5? I'd wander a block east of your building and tell the residents that live there and hang out on the sidewalk they are also driving down the property values downtown. Is it a store? Is it a residence? What the heck is that building? That needs to be addressed.
