There is no ordinance against murals in town. The only issue with the mural was that it had the business' phone number, and then fell under the sign ordinance. This issue was settled in 2008 before the mural was even finished. I'm very surprised that no one has commented yet on the new mural that was painted a block south of Kyle's building. It was in the newspaper this week, as well. Personally, I love murals and would like to see more professionally painted murals throughout our community. Ottawa has been mentioned, but Pontiac also has many beautiful murals. I agree......... Ottawa and yes also Pontiac are just gorgeous...and yes very professionally done too as well. I just noticed the painted mural on the old Vermillion Club south wall. Those people live in the old tavern and also have their own little pocket park there too. I think it does look a hell of alot better then it did when it was a vacant tavern. M

Actually, I visited several business owners just this past week talking about outdoor sales, making sure that some of them know that it is illegal. There was nothing but positive comments from them about my painting. I know I would have no problem raising the lousy $25 to keep this one building from looking so bad, but whoever the owners are, they obviously don't have a very good attitude about creating a good image for our downtown. Will they even paint it? Maybe it is someone that our city has really mad off and is leaving it that way to give the finger to the whole community? Doesn't anyone know who it is that owns this building? I'll have to make it a point to go into Edward Jones and ask for $5 to help improve the image of our downtown and see if I get a death threat instead. I'l be sure to post the results on here. Do us all a favor and dont worry about the rest of the downtown buildings. You've already left your mark on your building. This is why the city needs to hurry up and pass that conform law, before you get a chance to do something else. Why shouldn't I worry about the rest of the downtown? You talked about how you think my building is hurting the values, but I can't talk about one that I think is hurting the value of mine? I'll tell you what, I'll let you pick the color and lead our plea to the owners, are willing to chip in $5?

Pocket park? I thought that was Monroe Tap's beer garden. Ok, I gotta admit...now that ^^^^ was pretty funny........ahahaha!!! M Actually, from what I've heard, the people that hang out at that bar do a great job of watching over that park. I don't see broken beer bottles or plastic cups when I visit Heritage Park. I can't say the same for the rest of downtown or City Park though.

The city is drafting laws to protect the property values. Just as I said before they are doing this to protect other business owners from people like you. While its OK for you to be concerned about the downtown let others with business sense come up with the solutions. We have seen your solutions and thoughts. The problem is you think they're right, like painting your building like you did, when in fact they're wrong. So, please, steer clear of any future thoughts of the ways u would improve downtown.

lol grab the popcorn and soda DRAMA is on Well stay tuned, I'm sure there is more drama to follow. We haven't even talked about what is behind that fence or the other sides of the building yet. I don't want to get too far ahead though, so that Oldtimer can keep up. I'm still waiting to see if he is willing to chip in $5 and help beg the owners to get off their butts and show some concern for the image of our downtown. Also hawk may have strong opinions about the intentions of the owner's choice of paint design.

The natural ivy growing does cover up the brick.discrepancies. I'm.not saying main street is not in bad shape. What I am saying is that Kyle is not the one who needs to be deciding what to do with the rest of the downtown!!!!!!! Its a nice gesture that he wanted to try and improve his building, but his decisions of the paint and other business thoughts he has expressed on here shows that he needs to stay very, very, very far away.

No, No, Please don't leave Oldtimer, our population has already been decreasing way too much. I know you probably think they have been leaving all along because there was a chance that someone might paint a building bold colors, but I think they have been leaving because of buildings like the one this thread is about. So, I'll take it that you aren't willing to pitch in a measly $5 to help improve our community? I've heard SS isn't that much these days, how about I cover it for you and you just pick the color and convince the owners of this building to take some pride in our downtown?

Kyle, you just don't get it. You are the problem not the solution. I'm not trying to be mean I'm just trying to get you to realize it. Kyle you said one of the problems of streator is property values. Then you paint your building the way you did. You need to chill and let other people move the town forward. You're simply not capable of it. They have to pass laws to protect other business owners from you!!!!! That's unprecedented. That should tell you something??? Yes?

I would truly like to see what would really happen if any of the little jerks that hang out and destroy property up at the City Park do if ever they were caught there doing anything. Those biker boys would give'm a WHAT FOR..................lol. M
