Most wins in a MLB season by a team. (Two teams are tied almost a century apart. Both after 1900.) Yet, theses teams did not win a WS that year.

Marion Il. MLB player. He & his whole family are revered in his home town here in Illinois. I only know him as an A's catcher, who got run over in an All Star game by Pete Rose.

I never had an idea that Ray Fosse lives or lived in Illinois. Have to look it up now Dave.

It should be noted that after that collision, Rose didn't play the next 3 games following the collision but Fosse didn't miss. So although Fosse may not have had the once perceived expectations of being a power hitter, he had a pretty good run. His caching didn't falter so he still had a pretty good career. I'll always defend Rose about that collision. Catchers should always give the runner an "out", give the runner a part of the plate to slide to, they're taught that. If you don't, pay the price. That's old time baseball and that stuff happened a lot back then, we just had never seen it at the all-star game. Fosse only ended up with 61 homers and 324 rbi's over a 12 year career. Hardly great. I dislike speculation because somebody got hurt. I'd rather speculate on a guy like Herb Score or Tony C over a Ray Fosse. Ty Cobb was much more brutal to his fellow man than Pete Rose ever was.

I was born and raised in the "Dago Hills" of St Louis. I honed my skills in Joliet and Kalamazoo. I worked for the home town MLB team Browns before being hired by the Cards. My sidekick was Jack Buck. I moved on to work for Chuck Finley's A's. I. worked for the NBA Hawks, U of Missouri, and Cotton Bowl. I ended up doing games for the Sox and Cubs.

Harry Carey. Supposedly he got fired for running around with the owners wife and might have had the same problems in Oakland.
