Is it just me or does $75,000.00 a year for code enforcement sound like a lot. Maybe the new guy will hide in a different restaurant than grumps.

They said he'll also be some type of zoning official too and will work five days a week. It's only a few thousand (most of that benefits) more than we are paying for two part timers that are only on duty Tue-Thu now.

I can see having someone making sure that properties aren't looking terrible.
I thought they were having the Fire Dept. do it, but didn't think that was the best idea.
I think one person five days a week is better than having two part-timers, I just hope that it is the same enforcement for everyone.

My hope is that some kind of enforcement actually occurs... Case in point - the burned out home at 811 Cotton Street...Unlike the other burned out home at 904 Cotton Street, this house is not boarded up and is becoming a dangerous place... On Saturday night, some fool was lurking on the corner of Cotton & Illinois...He snapped the Stop sign clear off, then proceeded to walk right into the burned out house at 811 Cotton, using a lighter to creep around inside...The Police were called multiple times, and he was then seen on Hoyne St. exhibiting the same, strange behavior...
Point is, this house should be dealt with IMMEDIATELY...The longer these houses are allowed to sit, the more dangerous they become...

Who will it be? I hope it is not a retired city employee, taking a young persons job, like one of he last cronies. It would behove the city to retain a young local person to get the job and keep the young from moving away. But the good old boy clique, knows best.

I'm thinking about the position. Lets see starched uniform , high spit shine black boots, a service cap with a shinny bill , and maybe a arm band. OH YEA

I'm pretty sure the paper said the benefits were like $8,000. That still puts the job into the high sixtys salary. Do all city employess make that kind of money from my taxes?

I would require a couple years experience at another town as a code enforcement officer. A degree in safety, loss prevention, fire science, or police work would be a plus.
I would not hire anyone within 30 miles of Streator.
Streator needs a professional. I like the bus cap, black shoes idea as a plus.

I like the law about the trash bins, can't be out any earlier than 6:00 pm the night before and have to be removed from the street after garbage pickup no later than 6:00 pm..... how come i still see them there all week not being moved.... some enforcement.....

There are certain procedures that must be followed according to law. I call BS on this one...The ONLY reason why things aren't dealt with IMMEDIATELY is solely due to lack of ENFORCEMENT...Streator KNOWS who the owner is, and they should be dealing with them accordingly... FACT - This house is a DANGER to the public on a multitude of levels... FACT - Other Landlords manage to handle their issues IMMEDIATELY... FACT - This has been a SERIOUS and ONGOING issue in STREATOR for some time now... What if someones child wanders into this DANGEROUS home?...It's a 2 story that is barely standing...Then what?...House collapses, kid gets injured/killed, Streator taxpayers held liable due to LACK OF ENFORCEMENT!!! DON'T think for a minute it won't/can't happen... DEAL WITH THE HOUSE ALREADY!!

Since you appear to know what the law is concerning a situation like this, what is the proper procedure for the city of Streator to use if the property owner doesnt correct the problem immediately?
