I like the law about the trash bins, can't be out any earlier than 6:00 pm the night before and have to be removed from the street after garbage pickup no later than 6:00 pm..... how come i still see them there all week not being moved.... some enforcement..... you must live in my neighborhood. we have the same problem with the trash containers being out days at a time. What did the code enforcement personnel say about it when you called? Had they written a citation?

years ago we didnt need all these people-now all of a sudden with town getting less people we need someone for everything we do. i blame a lot on streator people for voting for all these extras. i think streator people better get a little smarter. taxes will go up and u will wonder why. if u really look at the census. half or more of them are senior in nursing homes or homes like they have out off oakly ave. in other words how many people do we have working here now. we have a lot on ss or ss disability. no matter how anyone looks at it this is a retirement town.
also depends on who u are wheather u get fined for codes, grass, fires, i see lot of people burning on no burn days but let me do that. i see lots of grass up to my butt and my legs are long. nothing done. let me let my grass grow be right down here. i have a 84 year old friend she was on list to mow her grass. but just take a ride around town. open your eyes. my neighborhood looks like a junk yard almost everyday i go outside there is all kinds of cups, paper etc. laying around. i use to pick up now why should i pick up after others. done ranting now. but u really need to open your eyes. take a look at the alleys grass as tall as me 5'7 parking in alleys i thought alleys were for emergency. u turn to get on myassfor thats the way it goes.

Years ago we didn't need an enforcer because years ago people took pride in their homes and yards. Not so much anymore.

know what u are saying lucky. but there is a but here and that is they are not doing there job but collecting there money. we have all this going on i wrote above, nothing being done. mayor, city council need to get around a little. and we dont need to put all this money out for city manager. mayor should be all we need. if the right man was hired he would be the most disliked person in streator for he would be doing his job.

u might think this is bs but let me be mayor for 1 month no 1 is my friend or no we cant do this. we will never see stores up town again. i said before we have to shop out of town for clothers, shoes, purses shame on us. i can afford to go to ottawa, peru and still save money. shame on streator. dont tell me to move for this has been my town for 70 years . just putting out what i think.
most of u didnt see streator in the 40s and 50s like i did. sad

jude20 in one of your posts you say that Streator needs to save money. Then in another post you are barking about how the city told workers to use cheap material to repair the downtown area? So, in that post you don't want them to save money?
What is it you want? Pick a lane.... do you want the city to save money or do you want them to spend it?

I think jude was talking about contractors being hired by private building owners.
Recently I saw one "fixing" brick buildings(not that bank building) with caulking and painting over it.
I noticed too that the bank building still has some issues, as do many others. I sure hope someone comes up with a use for that one.

I think the Murray building (former bank bldg.) may be the 300LB. gorilla on Main St. It has always been the largest building downtown & was very well used up til the 1960's when they started to lose office clients. I hope asbestos is not there. It could cost a fortune to remodel or to remove. I wonder who owns it now?

I believe the bank still owns it. When I asked an executive shortly after they relocated, he said that it wasn't listed but that if someone had a plan for it they would talk about it.
I think that the sign needing to be taken off because of our ordinance, devalued it considerable. That sign had great visibility and was not hurting anything in my opinion.

Just like your body do u wait till u fall apart than do something or do u try to keep your body up so it dont fall apart.
