And there you have it, this is why it wasn't screamed from the rooftops to flee for your lives, lock your doors and keep your women and children safe. IT WASN'T a carjacking. I'm sure a certain member of this board will try to claim his posts here had something to do with the paper finally reporting this horrific crime. I guess what trips my trigger is the thinking that every crime in town needs to be reported, you don't see every crime in the paper in bigger towns, you learn that bad things can happen and take precautions. Everyone is always complaining that the police need to do their job, so let me ask, would you rather have the police patrolling and doing what they are supposed to do or taking an hour out of their day to write up a press release to make sure everyone knows the Jane Doe got a friggin speeding ticket or that Jack Black and Tiny Tim got into an altercation at the bar? Really people, your priorities here need to be reexamined!

No one said it was a car jacking. It was called an attempted car jacking from the beginning. If this would have been reported to the newspaper right away, people would have been informed and known to keep an eye out. Even though it wasn't an actual car jacking, I am still very concerned about people reaching into the vehicles of strangers, obviously their intentions were not good. Once again, I don't need a newspaper story to know I should be aware of my surroundings at all times. Apparently this woman had her wits about her and she got away unharmed and the suspects didn't get what they wanted. Good for her. Like I said before they police had to investigate it before they reported anything to make sure all the facts were correct. It's been reported. They did their job.

"attempted to reach into the car' is a far cry from a car jacking. REALLY? Tosh, let me reach into YOUR car and grab you and then tell the forum it wasn't anything............. They sure as hell weren't asking for directions people.

If they are reaching into the passenger side to say steal her purse laying in the seat, then it would not be an attempted car jacking. Without more information we really don't know what it was.

They sure as hell weren't asking for directions people. Now..... you know nothing bad happens in this town. Their intentions were nothing but the best. If the woman didn't drive away and fight them off, then we could have called it a car jacking. But since their plan was foiled, there is to be no mention of this attack. It was the woman's fault because she should have been aware of her surroundings and not had her windows down. No one should never feel they are being stupid for wanting to be informed of what's going on in this town. This forum keeps people informed more than The Times. Don't be afraid to stand for what you believe in, even if that means standing alone..

Let me lay a little info on you, how did she get scratched if they reached into her passenger side window? I happen to know this lady............she may not want to make a big deal out of it ( she doesn't ), but I assure you that if it were a member of my family, there would be friggin news vans all over Streator. This isn't some kids making a half hearted attempt to grab a purse.

This isn't some kids making a half hearted attempt to grab a purse. Streator police give details about alleged 'carjacking' Streator police reported a criminal trespass to motor vehicle Saturday, Aug. 31, during Cruise Night. Sgt. Robert Turner told The Times a woman reported about 9:04 p.m. Saturday that two men approached her car in the 100 block of West Grant Street and attempted to reach into the car. Turner said the incident is not being classified as a carjacking since the woman was unable to articulate to police any possible demands the suspects made. The suspects are described as two small-framed black males. One had a shaved head and one was wearing a plaid shirt. They were last seen traveling westbound on Grant Street. Turner said officers were in the area but time had elapsed between the time of the incident and when it was reported and they were unable to locate the suspects. Turner said the victim's vehicle was processed and some material will be sent to the crime lab for analysis, but he is not sure any of the material will be identifiable That's why I said without more info we, meaning the general public, don't know what it was. Nowhere did I read where she got scratched.

Hence my growing distrust of whatever the local media defecates on paper.
Sorry, didn't mean to get short with you, but this type of stuff isn't going away, and the more they poo-poo it, the bolder they will become.

Maybe when and if concealed carry law is enacted, there will less chance of this happening. There would be two less brothers, if that was my vehicle. The cop could see what they had for supper on the side my vehicle. Two less drug addicts and gangbangers, never hurt anyone! Send them back, to Joliet and Chicago.
