If there was an attempted carjacking, then yes...it should be reported so the public is aware and on the lookout.

Thanks to SO, I am telling my wife and daughter to keep their doors locked in the vehicle and to be more cautious. I don't want this happening to them. Thank you posters for letting us know.
I don't understand how letting people know that an incident occurred so they can be cautious would keep the Police from catching the criminals.

Let's all call The Times and demand they make this a front page story. We should all demand that every single person of authority in this city should get their heads out of their asses and do things OUR way. Because we all know more than them. It should be in the paper, because if nothing else it would make people be aware more of their surroundings. Nothing was is the paper either about the guys that pulled a knife on people around the park. They were arrested, but released that same night. In fact, they were still allowed to go back up to cruise night. Amazing isn't it what people don't know. If you want to look through rose colored glasses...go ahead. I'd rather be a realist on the train. Choo choo.

If anyone on here needs a news story to know you should always be aware of your surroundings, well I guess someday something like this might happen to you. I would rather rely on common sense than The Times newspaper.

It's not the Streator Sucks train. It's the Streator Need Change So It Doesn't Suck train.
The Times says that they report what is told to them by the City. The City won't provide an answer as to why many crimes aren't reported to the paper. I guess we need to file FOIA notices to find out what crimes actually happen here.

The two males jumped in the car with a woman. She fought them off. The police were called, but were not caught. It should be in the paper, probably won't make it in there though. We don't want to ruin Streator's imagine. Everyone should make sure their doors are locked when driving, since they are still at large. If it happened on Saturday and wasn't in yesterday or today, I really doubt we will see anything in the paper. If there were no arrests and no reporting to the paper, will it make it into the crime statistics for Streator? Are Streator's crime statistics just made up numbers, whatever the City feels like reporting? No arrests means no consequences, so the perpetrators will feel free to do these things again. In my opinion, the good people will just keep leaving if these problems aren't corrected. Is it our police departments job to inform the local paper, radio stations, and any other news outlet of everything that happens in this city or is it the news outlets job to investigate and report the news? If something newsworthy happens such as an attempted carjacking and it doesnt make the newspaper how is that our police departments fault and not the newspapers fault. Myself, if you feel crime is going on unchecked in this city and it's not being reported in the paper perhaps you should reach out to your contacts at the Times and ask why they aren't doing their jobs. You can even call them corrupt. Let us know how that works out.

The public must have forgotten to be cautious about carjackings and robberies. A woman was not so lucky,. a few years ago. She was robbed and drug outside her vehicle, down route 18. The black male would not stop, and kept going. The crime train keeps on going, where and when, is the next stop? Chief Kurt should have posted a warning the cable station!

Yes, I believe it is our City's job to cooperate with the press to keep the public informed of the crime that goes on, so we can be warned of what to look out for to help keep ourselves safe. They provide a couple of traffic stops that don't really help the citizens, but car jackings, knifes being pulled, people getting run over, street fights, etc. are not supplied. It makes no sense to me, the public pays their wages, so shouldn't they be working for the public to help keep us safe?

Well, you file the FOIA notices, then. Let us all know how that works out for you. A new day, a new crusade... In the meantime, buy a scanner and you can keep up with all the crime in Streator.

No Thanks, I'll just keep talking about it being wrong that these things are not reported to the press.

You're all talk. You just like to listen to yourself b*tch. You know the problem with this city, but refuse to do anything but come on a forum and complain about it. You have all the answers, but you're just too lazy to do anything about it.

I am doing something about it. I have taken the time to speak to our City leaders many times. Since they don't listen, it has come down to trying to convince more people how bad we need change here. I have been and will continue working very hard on that.
