At one time, someone told me, it was because of the dragon flies near the pond, the reason they do not stay here.

I do know that hummingbirds do eat certain insects to supplement their diets.

They are possibly preparing for their journey. This has been a very unusual year for our hummingbirds. We've had an obviously "older" male & female & a youthful male & female. They are the only visitors we've had here since very early spring. Also, they have been far less territorial & much more co-operative than the hummingbirds we've had in past, since living in Streator. Something may have bloomed in your yard that they really enjoy & "word" might spread & you'll get a whole bunch more:-)

I have many different flowers to attract hummingbirds to my yard. I have a trumpet vines, canna and had rose of Sharon bushes. I have to fill my three feeders every 3 days. in all the years of feeding hummingbirds I have never had this many. it has been a weird year since they didn't show up till late in may.

I haven't seen a hummingbird this Summer. Maybe it's because I didn't plant canna plants w/ bright red flowers, this year.

They are coming to the Rose of Sharon, but not my feeders. And the swallowtail butterflies are huge and abundant!! All different colours.
