I always thought and wondered if this is a smoke screen to get people to allow them to come into your home to supposedly search for a dog ,when in reality going in looking for illegal drugs, guns and other illegal stuff and report it to police, which then gets around search warrants under probable cause. Police do not need a warrant to search your home if their is probable cause.

Least they would have all the addresses of illegal activity going on and get one big warrant to hit all the homes at the sametime.

All I know is I have seen so many dogs down at the barns that have homes....yet a lot of people don't call city hall to see I'd they have their dog...possibly worried about a fine or a fee to get them out...not sure...but I know it takes a tole on the animals being down there. If their pics are uploaded into a file they can find its home pretty quickly....just sad when they don't have to even be at the barns ....but theyre stuck there....
No one has to let them in.... bring the dog outside to take the pic, or go to city hall and do everything there...I've heard some people already have

That is probably the main reason why they don't claim them. Having to pay a fine and other fees.

Doctor /patient confidentuality law only covers humans, not animals. If they want to know, call both vet offices and obtain the files of what addresses are in compliance, and go door to door to the ones that don't have a file to investigate for a dog. It would cut down on the number of homes visited.

I agree that our local vets should help with this..... and when dogs are running at large take pics..fill out paperwork
About the fines and fees....they aren't and haven't been charging people....they just want to get the dogs back home....but people aren't aware of this

This county needs a no kill shelter for animals. How would you feel if we had to be tied up and as soon as we are loose and running at large,be picked up and taken to a place to be euthanized. No animal should be euthanized just because it is homeless without a owner. Our old aco back in the 80's took animals to the vet office that used to be located where autozone is and they were all euthanized.
Time to STOP KILLING ANIMALS unless they are vicious and actually bit someone and wasn't vaccinated for rabies. Everytime i see a dead dog or cat laying along the road ,i get sad and feel sorry for them and the animals owners.
Same thing when i hear shot guns going off in deer season. sad the deer lost it's life.

The City has tags so that those who live in town can register their dogs. County tags are for all who live in the county, whether you are in a town or not. The city tag fees are used to help pay for the shelter and the ACO.

They can stop charging us that fee, cause 95% of the time the county aco is called in,cause they can never contact the city aco when needed. I think the county aco should handle the calls for streator since he is from here and is home at night if needed and eliminate the city aco position.

Rocket I am 95% sure that your statement is incorrect.

My tax dollars is paying for that aco to respond to calls. How many times has spd requested the aco and they can never get a response? Then they call out the county aco.

My tax dollars is paying for that aco to respond to calls. How many times has spd requested the aco and they can never get a response? Then they call out the county aco. I have seen this complaint often. Especially on here. Again, I wonder what part of this plan stems from giving both city ACO a schedule to be followed, knowing when they are available or not.

The ACO is part time. City officials don't think there is a need for a full time ACO. Anon, you are right. Pete was hard working and caught not only dogs but any other animal and he also handled dead animals and discarded them as well. This town needs a full time ACO to work 40 hours a week and a part time to work weekends. The shelter the city has is traditionally a no kill shelter. When I worked there we kept the dogs as long as possible so we could either find the owner or a new home. I used to call other shelters in other towns and counties that we could take them too just to save them. Again, this is not a search of your home. They are going door to door and asking you if you own a dog. How you answer is up to you. You do not have to let them inside and you do not have to give them info. There may be repercussions if you have a dog and don't go along but it is up to you.
