Q. How is the door-to-door dog registration going in Streator? There was a big to-do about it, and now no one I know has been contacted or checked.
A. Director of Animal Control David fussell said the department is about a third of the way done with going door-to-door, having just completed the southeast quadrant of town. He said he hopes the entire south end of town up to Route 18 (Bridge Street) will be completed in the next month but noted the two part-time staff members also have day-to-day duties to continue. Fussell said response from residents has been predominantly positive because they have found the city's primary intent during the registration process is not to issue tickets for not having dogs registered but to gather identifying information to return the animals to their homes should they go missing.

"I do not agree that the city should be charging the people that already have their pets vac and/or chipped. "-dragonfly I agree. Mine are both vac & have ID tags, yet the city still wants to register my dogs & I have to come up with 30 bucks for the privilege. Nutz. ditto this post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I find it hard to believe most ppl agree to this, as Mr.Fussell has stasted.

Well, if they're so concerned with returning lost pets to their owners, when are they going to start citing those whose dogs constantly run loose, and have a history of owning aggressive/biting dogs?... Those in question live on a street where there are elderly people and children, some of them have experienced their dogs aggression and continue to be threatened by them on a near daily basis... Cops show up, the dogs are running circles around the squad car, nothing gets done...
