Here is what drives me CRAZY!!!!
We just lost a movie theatre because it wasn't supported by the community. People were going out of town to watch movies and not support something local, yet people will say, "There is nothing to do in Streator", when in fact there was, but it wasn't supported.
Enter Bullheads Restaurant. We are all in a hurry to travel out of town to eat when there are just as nice of restaurants in Streator as Bullheads. It drives me nuts! When the restaurants start closing I don't want to hear, "There's no where to eat in Streator" , when in fact there IS, but we'd rather drive out of town and do the same thing to the restaurants that we did to our movie theatre.
WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A list of Streator restaurants that are the same as Bullheads: DaLee's The Pines Al's Chippers Chix Teke's
There are other restaurants in Streator... the preceding list are those restaurants that are no different than Bullheads!

Agreed, supporting local business is good & important. We've regularly gone to 3 on your list, and have had 3 parties in the last 2 months when we've made sides & provided beverages, but we bought the chicken from Chippers. Our guests were all from out of town, & all were just as impressed by the chicken as we are. We've had groups of friends & family drive over, a few times during spring & early summer, from the Dwight area to enjoy a "step-back-in-time" for dinner at the Pines. All were delighted & have returned. We have lifelong friends that we've been "middle of the week diners out" with for always & they drive to Streator to enjoy Eastwood (a great spot you missed) with us. Just last week, actually. But, we feel fine about NOT choosing to always keep our business in Streator. Last night we were hosting an anniversary dinner party & we drove to Montes & I feel just fine about doing so. As I mentioned we invite people, regularly, to enjoy Streator establishments, & we support local places when we're alone. Therefore, I feel that it is unfair to expect that our desires will always be met by local. We plan to go to Bullheads. My Father in law & his sister grew up in Streator, they're in their 80's & getting to go there again may make them very happy, if it does we will definitely be going again. And I don't think we'll be traitors for doing so:-)

That movie theatre should have had many.more people going. Its sad and the town should be disappointed in itself.

I don't think Al's, Chippers & Chix are in the "Supper Club" catagory. You forgot Twin Creeks too! BTW, oldtimer, are you saying you NEVER go out-of-town & eat? Do you starve while on a trip? I forgot to mention the Bull Pen too. It's not a supper club, but rates the same kind as DaLees, a bar/rest. combo. I like both.

Ok, the theatre is closed so I will speak. MrR was as enamored by "the palace" as any of you. I went with him there on a very few occasions. Why? You may ask. I couldn't breathe in there. I told him the 1st time we went that there was mildew & mold choking me. He said "no its just the fresh paint, it will get better". After a dozen or so trys & a dozen or so horrid headaches, he believed me & we quit going there. He still, as the selections allowed, took our houseguests there, sans old eva. But, I really din't think I'm the lone allergy sufferer in Streator. I had to leave the last time I went, part way through a show, we'd taken an out of town house guest, I became too ill to remain in the building. After sitting in tbe fresh air for close to an hour I was much better. I appreciate that many would like a tbeatre here, I would too, I was once an avid moviegoer, but with the whole "Palace debacle", at our house I just stopped going. I, honestly, believe the state of the building was a greater deterrent than many want to admit. We didn't simply NOT support it, I couldn't support it, & I don't believe I was alone.

I for ONE did NOT support The Majestic Theater when it was run by Katie. I WON'T SUPPORT ANY Business Her OR Her Husband are involved in. That is all I will say about that Subject. As for the Restaurants I do frequent a few of Them. MONEY is the MAIN REASON so many People in this Town can't AFFORD to go out and eat. This Town is slowly being made up of Thugs and Retirees. MONEY is something few have in this Town.

Masked, it's only legal now because the State is providing it to get some of their money back. Remember "Horse to Water" ? It's amazing how broke this State is with all the Lottery money going to the School's and what not ? Bullshi_!!!!!!!! Next thing ya know the gambling will accept Link.

There is nothing wrong with retirees. Thugs should be dealt with...... As for little expendable income, I would like to wade into a seldom discussed situation we have long had in town. We have a lot of people that enjoy gambling. It's legal now, and it's just about everywhere. I am all for people spending their own money any way they like. They are adults and can make their own choices. But........Does anyone else see this legalized gaming trying to suck up every last available dollar out there? Oftentimes from people that may be least able to afford losing it? Like I said, I am not trying to launch a campaign. I am not against people that choose to gamble. I am just suggesting that people consider making other choices for entertainment. At least think about it before you put YOUR money into that machine. Does it really spit out more money than you put in? A long time ago, my brother sat me down with a couple roles of dimes with his old mechanical slot machine. He said if you play long enough, it will take every last one, every last time, and it does. I was not much of a gambler before, and even less of one afterwards. I'm NOT a Gambler Myself either. But if Someone WANTS to choose to put THEIR MONEY into a Machine WHO AM I TO SAY anything about it? I see no difference in putting Your Money in One of THOSE MACHINE, or SMOKING A CIGARETTE. You don't see any return on either. I could go on but I WON'T. People with Children CAN'T AFFORD to go out and enjoy a Movie or a nice Dinner.

I attended the Majestic many times and enjoyed it. I am sad to see it close. I do like to support local business but also like to go to out of town restaurants as well. I don't think our restaurants are in trouble. They seem to be growing in numbers instead of closing. Satch's will be opening again. I am not sure when but I know it is in the works.

Last night I took my youngest daughter to the YMCA for her to have something to do. The YMCA was trying to have something for the kids to do. But yet there was only ten kids that Supported the effort of the YMCA. Four less than last month.

We supported the Majestic. We would have went more if the movie choices were better. They never got half of the blockbusters that came out.

If you don't support local businesses with your dollars, you will spend your dollars in gas money to your out of town employer.
Show me your savings.
