It's not open anymore, but I loved the Red Door too! Victor was the one who cooked some dishes @ your table, when he first opened it in the 70s. Steak Diane, Cherries Jubilee, Bananas Foster .....
I have to tell you my "Victor" story. He had Steak Tartare on the menu for years. For a number of years, the menu said after the listing for Steak Tartare: "For men only." Two female lawyers were in the Red Door one night and ordered Steak Tartare. Victor explained that he had been in the Swiss Army and learned that Steak Tartare made guys "horny." When one of the female lawyers got back to Chicago, she wrote a faux threatening letter contending that Victor was violating women's "rights." As as result, he changed the wording on the menu to read "Steak Tartare (Not for men only; ask your waitress for the story.)"

Yeah, that surprised me when that closed down.
My wife and I, and a couple from Streator, had dinner there a week before it closed.

I loved the "Red Door" and Steak Diane, and the way it was prepared at the table.

I wouldn't say "people in Streator are looking for the bargain" I know MANY who go out for a nice dinner. I guess if you don't go, you don't see them! I like Hanks too, snipe. Loved their Fri. nite buffets too!
Blue Star,
Hank's is terrific.
How about "Annie's Hideaway", "Monty's", and gosh remember "Paradise Island"?
Gosh, remember when men wore at least a tie for dinner, and pulled out the chair for their lady?

I liked the Stage Door in Peru. Ken would complain that I always ordered the ribs and ignored his fresh fish dishes. I would always tell him that I can get fresh fish a number of places, but very few places had ribs as good as his. His brother had a good restaurant in Dalzell called Bogart's.
I've eaten at "Annie's Hideaway", "Monty's", but I don't remember the "Paradise Island," where was that?
"Bogart's" in Dalzell too. Never tried the "Stage Door." Was that the caboose rest. near the Red Door?

The Stage Door was on Peoria Street, several blocks from the river. Ken had some serious health problems and died when he was only 62. Ken (Hageman) majored in theatre at Illinois State University and acted in television commercials and plays during the early 1970s. He opened Bogart’s Restaurant in Dalzell in 1980 and later opened The Stage Door Restaurant in Peru in 1984, which he owned and operated until closing in 2001.
That would be the connection of going to Bogarts w/a friend who was in plays @ Engle Lane.

Now how did you know that? It closed before "I" was of age to drink!!

I will take the Pines, over any of those from Ottawa, any day of the week. It is a 'REAL' restaurant.
Just curious what a 'REAL' restaurant is?
My fav restaurant is Hanks. But, I don't go there often. It makes it special then, when I do. I love Woodys spinach salad, but chixs is almost as good, so I get my fix here in town. Bullpen has an amazing smoked ribeye. The pines and Tekes have yummy steaks, too. So, I get my fix of those here, also. Once in awhile, it's nice for a change, though.
Called out there about 4 today and they told me that they couldn't take my reservation, that was first come first serve all night tonight. Sounds like they are extremely busy.
