I rarely go into family dollar but sure hope they don't close as well and put people out of work. Dollar General is my go to. It's close to me and I like the employees in there. Ditto. I love that store. There employees are top notch. I only go to Walmart for a couple of items. Otherwise it's Kroger and Dollar General for me. I would hope Family Dollar doesn't close, too.

Dollar General is my fav. I do not like the new set up at Family Dollar and no longer go there as much. Both places are getting more and more things Made in USA, and I like that. I hope FD, does not close.

If walmart wasn't here, maybe we would still have the stores we lost. I can assure you, WalMart has much less than you think to do with the store closures in Streator...When K Mart closed, their numbers were the same as WalMarts were at the time regarding sales...WalMart didn't affect K Mart in the least as far as that goes... That being said, it wasn't that long ago that The Times responded to some of my questions related to Tractor Supply Co. going into North Point, and the answers were somewhat appalling to those who worked at K Mart...The reason why TSC isn't here yet - K Mart still holds their lease at North Point, and nobody else can use the parking lot due to their lease...Since their lease doesn't end until 2016, yet another business is being slighted in favor of the rent Feildman is getting for an empty strip mall...IMHO, the city should look hard and deep into his practices, and his lack of maintenance on the property...After what I've seen there, much of it should be condemned or he should be forced to bring the units up to "current" code... Losing any other business in town should be a sign of things to come... Fieldmsn doesn't own the part of the shopping center where kmart was located. That is he didn't 5 years ago or so.

Well I as I'm certain all don't want to hear of this closing either. I like going to all these so-called dollar stores to see what they do have different. Truth be made though people........ our government has made this FACT, and I'm not talking City government, I'm talking the "big box store" CEO's have a person on their board of directors appointed TO an important government position.......and that is FACT! The small "mom / pop" stores are soooooooooo long gone, and that is the reason why. My parents ran two photography studios, one here in town, and one in Ottawa. When the "big box" stores starting coming into factor the little man, such as my parents, small business men had no recourse to even compete with their sales. I remember my parents couldn't even BUY film wholesale to resell...cheaper then these stores sold. Face it.....those days are long gone, and the speciallity downtown stores, they are to blame for shutting down for the most part the majority of. WE the people have been subjected to of course buying cheaper if and whenever we could.............. If you want a real enlightening eye opener on this subject.... then rent the documentary "Walmart.com" WATCH THIS : M

Remember the jobs that the county moved out of Slumtown, to the Carrus (sp) building? Our great council would rather buy rundown buildings , than investing in a building that well paying jobs could be housed. What great city mismanager was in charge that year?
