Family Dollar to close 370 stores; Streator future unclear Posted: Friday, April 11, 2014 10:21 pm Family Dollar will close 370 of its 8,100 stores in 46 states, but it is unclear whether the Streator store will be among them. Public and Media Relations Manager Bryn Winburn told The Times Friday the company is working to finalize the store closure plan and will disclose information on affected locations at the appropriate time. "Family Dollar is taking decisive action to better position the company to succeed in an adverse operating environment," Winburn said via email. "The company recently conducted a comprehensive review to identify measures to provide customers with more value, increase operational efficiency and improve financial performance." The Streator Family Dollar is at 1406 N. Bloomington St. www.mywebtimes.com/news/local/family-dollar-to-close-stores-streator-future-unclear/article_456e8785-cde1-5551-b831-e6671115f3d9.html

As Kyle might say, "This is another example of the City council not doing its job."

I surely hope not for Streator. I shop at all three dollar store in Streator. It just depends where I'm closer to at the time.

I was wondering when I went in there about a week ago and a lot and I mean a lot of items being marked down. I thought it was kind of strange the stuff that was being marked down.

If they marked a lot of stuff down, then this store is on the list of closures and is not being released to the news until a later date.

AS I said awhile back when I was there between 8am to 8:30am ,a Washington realtor agent pulled up and started looking at the place. the whole building not just the dollar store. Wondering if the owner of the pawnshop which I believe still owns that whole building has possibly decided to sell the place.

I feel bad for all the workers being laid off in these hard economic times. I hope we don't lose another store.

Well I been hearing that one of these days walmart will be the one stop shop in town. If walmart wasn't here, maybe we would still have the stores we lost.
Pretty bad when you see a dollar store closing "the cheapest stores in town".

If walmart wasn't here, maybe we would still have the stores we lost. I can assure you, WalMart has much less than you think to do with the store closures in Streator...When K Mart closed, their numbers were the same as WalMarts were at the time regarding sales...WalMart didn't affect K Mart in the least as far as that goes... That being said, it wasn't that long ago that The Times responded to some of my questions related to Tractor Supply Co. going into North Point, and the answers were somewhat appalling to those who worked at K Mart...The reason why TSC isn't here yet - K Mart still holds their lease at North Point, and nobody else can use the parking lot due to their lease...Since their lease doesn't end until 2016, yet another business is being slighted in favor of the rent Feildman is getting for an empty strip mall...IMHO, the city should look hard and deep into his practices, and his lack of maintenance on the property...After what I've seen there, much of it should be condemned or he should be forced to bring the units up to "current" code... Losing any other business in town should be a sign of things to come...

I rarely go into family dollar but sure hope they don't close as well and put people out of work. Dollar General is my go to. It's close to me and I like the employees in there.
