Streator District 44 Parents & Community Unite. It seems to me they are on the verge of harassment and stalking . When they start picking on the man's family, I am not going to support this group if they go after the mans family. In my opinion

My wife made the suggestion to these women to maybe start doing fundraisers for the district and for the kids. One of the ladies made the statement that if they did fundraisers, the money would go into Mr. Wilkinson pocket. But it appears they want to give Mr. Wilkinson, a hard time. Granted, I don't agree with Mr. Wilkinson asking for a raise while cutting staff. But how these parents are approaching the issue is something to be desired. Just saying.

This District is way beyond a bake sale or fundraiser, WE are already Fundraising for sports and Band. They also are not giving Mr. Wilkinson a hard time. As Taxpayers, they are demanding answers for all of the decisions that have been made. Accountability is what they want, from the Board Members and Administration.

Well, it is unlikely that this group will get answers, or at least not the ones that this group will like. Even if Mr. Wilkinson resigns and moves on, this group has to realize that whom moves into this administration position, will start out at the wage and same contract, as what Mr. Wilkinson is at now. But to get answers by "attacking a person's family" is not the answer neither. From what I'm seeing this picketing in front of the Education Building did not last very long nor was there too many parents holding signs. The website that this group started is deleting post, which in turn tells me that others don't like how this group is handling things. Let alone this website, there is no post stating the progress, or what this group has found out. That makes me go hmmmm...

Have not seen this small group within the past few days with their signs in front of the Education Building. Did they receive the answers they wanted? All of a sudden, this group is hush hush. So I'm assuming they received some answers that they wanted. Correct me if I'm wrong. Have not seen any thing posted on their website on if they received answers or what their next step is. Or did they get no where?

That is odd. I have been getting updates regularly. And if asking why some get perks while other do not, is NOT bashing his family. Noone is going after his family, just trying to find out why some kids, get to leave school, for some other classes out of town. Can all parents to this? Nasty posts have been deleted and meeting are still happening. Posters are being made and petitions are being sent out. Bravo to anyone brave enough to stand up and demand accountability.

It appears to me from what I've read in the paper, that this group is having meetings with the board and Administration but not accomplishing anything. Mr. Wilkinson does not seem think that there is nothing wrong with him receiving a raise while cutting staff. Is this group accomplishing their goal on the petition? What is your intake on this?

Most school superintendents make as much if not a lot more than Mr. Wilkinson. I wish the paper would publish the profit and loss statement. The problem is that our school district does not make enough money. If anyone would like to donate some big money, the school could use it.
I know Ottawa High said in the paper they faced a $3,500,000 deficit. If they paid a teacher $100,000 a year in pay and benefits, they would need to lay off about 35 teachers to break even, not just a shop teacher.
If the State took over our school, everyone would want Mr. Wilkinson back. WHY? Because the state would lay off even more teachers to close another school. We may bus kids to Ottawa.

I think that these parents that started District 44 website need to go about may be doing fund raiser. Instead of trying to reason with the board members and the administration.
Fundraisers idea: comedy night fundraisers, donkey basketball fundraisers, pig roast, putting containers out asking for pennies, rummage sales, smencil pencil fundraisers, adult spelling bee, reusable shopping bag fund raiser, lollipop fundraisers, having a meal and have some sort of case to solve, recyclable fundraisers,

For the school district. I know that sounds goofy, but it's an idea to try to attempt to help the school district money issues. I realize it's not going to help get out of debt, but I thought just maybe if these parents would do fund raisers, may be the board members would help out if they see that the parents want to try to help with the money issues. There are so many different ideas for fund raisers if people would look on the internet for ideas and actually do these fund raisers, the money could go towards the school district. The school district have to pay staff members and pay electric bills ect. Every little bet does help. I'm trying to give positive solution. And it does take a community to get the school district out of the whole. Not just the board members and Mr. Wilkinson trying to figure out money solution.

It is scary. This school district has 70% of students that are on public aid. about 14% of the students that are homeless or what the school call displaced. Which of course does not help the finances of the school district because of all those kids that free meals(breakfast and lunch). All the free breakfast and lunches alone add up. Because to make these meals cost with electric or gas. and the cost of the food. Even if the would by chance cut out free lunches that would effect those that would not eat when they are not at school. not having the jobs to bring in the money for the school district takes out a lot in the community. It's a cycle that is hard to deal with.
