I have every confidence that the lack of income from the theatee business was a huge part of Tim's decisions to kick people out of his theatre. I also am confident that the theatre coukd have produced much more income if the uncontrolled negative bar impacts didn't have so many people not want to be around them. I hold the City more responsible for my losses, despite what you may believe. Yes, my family did work hard to open the place, but that doesn't mean that it didn't also require cash to get it open. You don't think that the hardware store gives out that paint, cleaning and other supplies for free, do you? You don'think that suppliers and film companies send out product for businesses to sell for free, do you? Didn't they teach you at business school that business products and furnishings cost money? I understand all that, but to stick the kind of money that requires a repayment period of over 25 years for just business products and furnishings for a 2 screen theater is just plain insane, especially without consulting a professional. Then on top of that, leaving those furnishing there after he kicked you out.I didn't go after Tim to try to recoup my investment because I knew that he didn't have it. Don't you think that the bank hires professionals to try to protect their interests? Considering that hiring professionals didn't seem to protect their intrestes, what difference do you think my hiring professionals would have made in the situation? It may not have protected their interest or yours, but at least you might have had a little more recourse in getting some of your investment back.Perhaps you are right though, maybe I should have hired an attorney to go after the City of Streator for not properly enforcing our laws to create an environment conducive to business other than bars. It seems that legal battles are the only thing that the City of Streator does redpond to. What do you mean "should have" . You "still can" hire an attorney. But like Tim and the city, everybody knows you are all talk and wouldnt follow though with it.Oh yes dog, I could have stripped the building and left it non-operable so that the community didn't have any theatre like it seems Katie did, but I wouldn't have needed an attorney for that. How does it seem that has worked out for her? Sure she might have a couple of donated projectors sitting in her garage, but don't you think maybe she would be able to sell more houses if she would have left them for the community to have the theatre they donated to save? Stripping the theatre wouldn't have gotten back my càsh investments into the business. Having an open movie palace in our downtown made my property worth more and I was proud knowing that my investment was a good part of the reason that the.community had a theatre to enjoy. Other than some attorneys scoring a pay check, do you really see a benefit to throwing money at a legal battle with our City, considering their tort immunity? Wouldn't it just end up being more of a burden on tax payers who already pay the highest (and increasing) tax rates in the area with the lowest amount (and declining) of services. I believe that Tim and our City know that I am more than just talk. They have both seen me actually do things and provide results. They both should know that I am the one responsible for turning the long time vacant boarded up building into the first run movie palace enjoyed by our community for years. They both should also know that I am responsible for taking my vacant unused building into a viable income property. I don't know if Tim saw, but certainly our City knows that I did more than just talk about pigs flying. I thought that I was going to have a chance to do more than talk about legal action when a Council Member asked my opinion about corruption at a Council Meeting Public Forum and then said that he had everything that he needed and would see me in a courtroom, but he turned out to be nothing but talk. If what I have to say is so wrong, why do you suppose our City leaders just talk about my family being illegal when we are not and make their threats for my giving my opinions, without going through the legal channels to provide proof in a court room? At least I stand behind what I say and don't make claims or threats that I'm not willing to back up, like our City seems to. Because I am not quick to file lawsuits, you can believe that I am all talk to try to make yourself feel better. I'm not worried about it; I am confident that there are enough people who are smart enough to see the truth.

You are so full of yourself, That councilman you speak of was didn't back off. Bruce Hart became ill and passed away. You are so lucky and don't even know it. He had the money, time and a relative that would have done the legal work for him. And that is a fact. He was good for this community and did more for this town than you ever could have and I'm speaking of things that go unpublished. Whatever rock your under, stay there.

There was plenty of time for me to be served papers before he passed. Do you seriously think he was going to sue me for answering his request at the Public Forum for what I "think"? Really? Why don't one of the other or the City take up his pursuit? They have plenty of resources, don't they? What are you talking about? I'm not under any rock. I didn't see you at the last Council Meeting though.

Kyle never lets facts get in the way of a good babble. Is that right? What do you know about the facts of this situation? Do you think Mr. Hart really would have sued me for stating what I "think" when he requested to know what I "think" at the Public Forum? The fact is that his legal threat was one of the most ridiculous and disgusting things that I have ever heard. What makes them "think" that they can control what other people "think"? Do they "think" that we are their puppets and if we have thoughts that they don't agree with they will take us to court because they have enough money and resources to try to control everyone, despite what our laws say? Willy seems to think I am lucky that Mr. Hart didn't sue me for what I "think", I would have loved to have had the chance to face him in a courtroom to defend my right to "think" the way I like, regardless of how much money he may have. He's answering to a different judge now though.

Gee dog, perhaps with your vast education and your apparant love for feeding attorneys, you may know more than I do about these matters, but for a defamation case, wouldn't the first step be for him to prove that what I say is false? How do you suppose he would go about proving that what I said wasn't what I actually think?

so much of what I read about bullying today I don’t find to be a big deal. When I was a kid, bullying was a rite of passage Yes, it seems that bullying is a part of Streator's culture. Willy still promotes the playground style attitude adjustment, butt tapping, treating people like Timex watches in our schools. Students push each other down stairs and go after others using a wrench as a weapon. Are our schools intended to be a place where individuals decide who they feel deserves the best downs and earn their "Rite of Passage"? Does the staff report abuse when it happens? Does the bullying "rite of passage" really provide a good learning environment for the future of our community? How many students don't get the education that they should because of the abuse? Does the bullying even stop when people are not in school any longer or is there an attitude that some are elites and can control what others are allowed to do, say, or even think, despite our laws? It seems to me that our Mayor and some other City leaders feel that they are elite, above our laws, and can control others. Was there any merit to the Councilman's threat of legal actiion for what I "think", or was it just him trying to use his money to bully me out of my First Ammendment Rights?

How do you suppose he would go about proving that what I said wasn't what I actually think? I wasnt there. What exactly did you say? You really should try attending the meetings to see how those who seem to feel they are elite treat those who they seem to think are their serfs. He said that he had heard that I was talking about corruption on SO and asked if I "think" they are corrupt. I responded that I "think" some of the things that they do are corrupt. He responded thanking me, that he had everything that he needed and would see me in court. The month before I read a prepared statement to test the slander clause of the ordinance that they routinely used to stop me from talking at three minutes, inviting them to stop me if I say anything that is untrue. I talked about three different situations saying that I believe they were corrupt, calling each of them corrupt. He must not have even been listening to me though. The City Attorney who routinely stops me seemed to be listening intently, but no one stopped me or even commented after I spoke. They are the ones with the practically unlimited resources to stop me from saying things that may be untrue. Do you think they would really let me keep saying that some of the things that they do go against our laws if they had any legal ground to stand on and claim that they did follow our laws? Doesn't it seem that they should just start following our laws to keep people from saying that what they do is corrupt? Instead it seems that because they feel they are elite and above our laws, they just do whatever they want and bully those that they feel are their serfs. Our City Manager's recent refusing to provide their requirements to patch, paint, clean, furnish, and reopen the Majestic shows me that they haven't seemed to of changed their attitude.

Dealing with bullies may not be pleasant interaction but that's life. Falling down at the end of a slide is not fun but eventually Mom and Dad have to let you play on your own and you may suffer some scrapes and bruises on your own. Some are accidents and some may be inflicted by other people that were not playing nice. That's life. It's said that life is only 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to what happens to you. So how are you conducting yourself in regards to 'the City' Kyle? Has it really been productive for you? Is it causing any desired improvements? Is it making friends or influencing people? Is it helping you get past any of it and move on? Bullies aren't fun to deal with, but it's an opportunity to learn and grow as a person. Take something good away from even bad or unfortunate situations. Do you feel that people selling heroin to our children, arson, shoot outs, and child murders are just part of life and acceptable as well? Hasn't there been a national social movement promoting bullying as wrong, damaging, and unacceptable? Do you think that promoting it as a "rite of passage" and "part of life" here will make more people want to live in Streator and raise their children in our schools? How have I been conducting myself in regards to the City? Haven't I been open and upfront enough about that, or was that a rhetorical presumptive question to try to make it out as if there is something wrong with my standing up for what I feel is right and what I want? Yes, it has been productive for me. Standing up for what you feel is right can be very self gratifying. Although I haven't yet gotten as many changes as I would have liked, there have been some. It is obvious to me that I have been influencing some people. It's not about making friends, although I do have many. It is also not about my getting past aything or moving on. It is about discussing the the problems that I see and asking our leaders to adress them and produce better results for our community. I am learning and growing as a person from this, but I am not looking to take anything, just trying to ask our leaders to create something good from their bad and unfortunate situation.

How do you suppose he would go about proving that what I said wasn't what I actually think? I wasnt there. What exactly did you say? Well, it's pretty safe to say he doesn't REALLY think that people stay away from Streator because of the fear of any violence. If he really believed that there was so much violence, over serving by bar owners, that people here support bullying, think arson and shoot outs are acceptable, and that our city leaders don't support our laws, then he would/should be too afraid to ramble on for 224 pages of accusations, innuendo, twisting of words, rumors and mud slinging. If he really believed that our citizens were all those things, then he would surely be smart enough to fear retribution of a 'beat down', fear for his life, not be hanging off his building hanging pigs, as a target for a drive-by. Or worse, surrounded by a band of thugs, and PEE'D on. Surely, if he REALLY BELIEVED that Streator was full of a bunch of over served, bullying, nose thumping, arson starting, Brown bag passing, pants dropping, pee ing shooters, then would he be spitting in the face of those nose thumping, over served, alley pee-ers? And, since he has antagonized his neighbors, alienated most of the town, video peeped/taped his fellow citizens, irritated fellow Facebookers, and no one has done any nose thumping, or even pee'd on his pant leg, I think that's pretty much all the proof anyone needs that Streator is none of the things he repeatedly rambles on about.

Oh, now you think you know what I think? If you really think that my not recieving any beat down or being urinated on because I don't back down from what I think is right and what I want for my community and call out those who seem to support violence, bullying, peeing in the middle of our streets, or any of the other unaddressed problems, proves anything about anything, I really feel sorry for you. Your claim of "alienated most of the town" seems strange to me since I get many people expressing their support to me and telling me of their problems with the City. I recently had someone contact ne wanting to know the name of they attorney I used to defend myself against our City. I may not be a favorite of many at City Hall or with their other club members, but there seems to be many others in the community who are not happy with the results they are left with. Video peeped? What are you talking about? In this day and age, you don't expect that you would be video peeped just about anywhere when out in public? Really? Do you really not believe that I have a right to record what goes in in and around my property? Really? Welcome to the video and information age! Maybe you should start not doing anything in public that you might be embare-assed to have show up on Youtube or any other of the many sites on the world wide web. Don't you think?

Here and Again — a local nonprofit organization — has applied for a $500,000 grant to create a community radio station and acquire and restore the Majestic Theatre in Streator.
Former Majestic manager and Here and Again Board President Katie Troccoli said her organization is in tight competition with more than 1,000 other groups seeking the grant from the Knight Foundation.
Troccoli is asking for public support to provide positive comments to influence the foundation. She said the grant application is being written by fellow Here and Again board member Greg Haynes.
"Of course, our chances of winning this grant are zero if you don't apply," explained Troccoli. "I truly believe we have a good shot at receiving this grant. The Knight Foundation is known for supporting the arts and helping local communities."
She added, "And if we don't win this grant, we apply for others."
In December, the organization received a license for a low power community radio station from the Federal Communication Commission.
Organizers have said the new station — at first — will be a 100-watt FM broadcast station at frequency (MHz) 94.5 FM Channel. The physical studio location will be at 827 Columbus St., Ottawa.
The station's actual call letters have yet to be decided upon and reception should go out to a radius of 7 to 10 miles once operational. Organizers hope to have the channel up and running by spring or summer 2015.
Haynes has previously said the station will play music, both live and recorded, and provide an outlet for dozens of hours of local programming per month.
The classic Majestic movie house was closed and boarded up in August 2014, and the business closed. Built in 1907, the theater was bought by Tim Burke in 1997, and it had been open since 2007.
First Farmers Bank & Trust, the Kokomo, Ind., bank that holds liens against the theater, placed the only bid offered for the shuttered building during a swift sheriff's auction at the La Salle County Governmental Complex on Etna Road in Ottawa on Aug 12.
At that time, when prompted for an opening bid, Springfield attorney Mariann Pogge placed a bid of $85,000 on behalf of the financial institution. She nor the bank's Special Assets Officer Hoyt Alexander, who was present at the auction, had any comment following the purchase.
A spokesman for the bank did not return phone calls about the status of the building Tuesday from The Times.
For more information or to leave a comment for the foundation, go online to newschallenge.org/challenge/data/evaluation/radio-station-and-media-project.
Troccoli said she hopes local residents interested in saving the Majestic and the creation of a new local radio station will go to the site, comment and spread the word over social media.
"The more support the better our chances," said Troccoli. "Our efforts will create jobs and enrich people's lives not only in Streator but within the entire Illinois Valley."
