I'm seeing reports that Granville has limited power and Hennepin is out completely.
ETA: Sorry, I should have stated this came from several people that live there.I guess Granville was on a "brown out" for couple hours. I never heard back about Hennepin.

What in the world is Streator district thinking. Electricity has went out, granted it was only a short, quick time but the buildings can still get cold quickly. These young people can easly get cold then get sick. I understand that the district does not want to extend school which I agree with. But there is lives to think about also.

I'm hearing Grand Ridge lost power now?
The school year runs stupid now as it is. Summer doesn't even start until later in June and Aug and Sept are still summer and hot. Shouldnt even start until mid Sept. Yeah yeah I know sports. Well they could still run football without school in session

The solution to the long school year would to cancel the sports programs and band. That way the spawn, could get a comfortable education from labor day, to memorial day. Save the taxpayer's money, if that is causing the long school year, according to turtle.

I agree Seaturtle. Right now Lucky Subdivision is without power as well as Grand Ridge. I don't know about Woodland but for parents who WORK, this IS a tough call on who stays home and who goes to work.
My Son-law doesn't get paid days off nor vacation days, same with my daughter. SOMEONE Must stay home with the kids and Man the generator.
I feel bad for our kids!

It does make it difficult. I know others in other countries, states shake their head at us when they have these kind of temps and worse all the time but they are also prepared for them because of it. I have talked to friends in Canada and Alaska about this. They all say their winter gear is not the same as what we wear here in addition to layers, engine heaters, generators etc are the norm.

From my understanding, the YMCA has offered their facility to people from Grand Ridge are the use of their building since the word is out that Grand Ridge is out of Electricity. This is a wonderful gesture on the YMCA part.

They all say their winter gear is not the same as what we wear here in addition to layers, engine heaters, generators etc are the norm. you need to able to generate your own power, especially in this weather the trick is it needs to be generated safely so no one gets electrocuted or exposed to carbon monoxide if you're using gasoline to run your generator, same deal, no sparks and be extra careful when you refuel we still talk about the blizzard of 79 every now and then...was in Rockford in those days and we would've been screwed if the power failed
