I think that if you are on any type of welfare whether it be link, check, medical card, whatever and you get pregnant, you lose it. It's ridiculous that women have baby after baby after baby all the while on some type of welfare. How much do pregnancies cost the taxpayers? I don't have a problem with one but if you keep having them and your financial situation basically stays the same, then something is wrong. And how many of those are high risk pregnancies and yet they keep getting pregnant with more high risk pregnancies while on welfare? Hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on one individual because they're too lazy to use proper birth control.

Help ME PLEASE to understand YOUR Post? Don't put words in my mouth. I don't WANT any baby to starve to death. You're right, it's not their fault. It's the parents fault. It's the parents responsibility to take care of that child, not mine. If there are circumstances beyond their control, of course people should be helped but to keep having babies while on welfare is THEIR problem, not mine. Take care of it yourself. You'd be surprised how much pregnancies would drop if they weren't getting paid for it by someone else. This is 2013. There is no reason for the number of pregnancies while on public aid. Mistakes happen.... but if the same thing keeps happening over and over then it's no longer an "accident", it's a choice. Pay for your own choice. This country wouldn't be in as bad of shape as it is today if it wasn't for welfare. I'm not saying not to help people. I'm saying once it becomes habit, then they're on their own.

Disability needs to be overhauled, too. We all know people who are disabled that still work. Who decides who qualifies and who doesn't? Don't get me wrong, if a person is truly disabled and unable to work, they should get it. But, if you are disabled to where you can't work in the field you normally would, but could work in a different field, then by all means...work the other job.

But, if you are disabled to where you can't work in the field you normally would, but could work in a different field, then by all means...work the other job. I think disability is the new scam. My brother has a friend who is now getting disability because he has an alcohol problem. His disability was awarded AFTER he successfully completed rehab. How in the hell does that happen? He gets his apartment for nothing, his electric is capped at 100.00 a month ( he has all electric) and he gets 200.00 dollars a month food stamps and a medical card. His disability check is around 900.00 a month. He's a single guy, 48 yrs. old. He has no car, lives in a very small town so he can walk anywhere he needs to go. His mother or sister takes him where he needs to go out of town. So, let's say he also has a cell phone and cable. (which he does) Cable, internet and cell are let's say on the high end of 200.00 a month and his electric of 100.00. That leaves him with 600.00 a, month to buy his paper products, get a hair cut, etc. His rent is paid, his electric is paid, his cable and cell are paid, his medical bills are paid, his food is paid, he has no car payment, car insurance or gas to pay. Yet still has 600.00 a month left over. Makes me want to start drinking. Heavily.

Wow, that really surprises me, I knew that addictions had been considered a true 'disability' from somewhere in the 1970's untill the late 1990's, when I thought it ended. I honestly thought addictions were no longer a viable S.S.Disability. I know far too many people who were awarded such status long ago, and who still receive it. The idea that it still goes on, just sets my blood to boiling. Now your friend can meet up with some lady who has a bunch of children and they can be one happy family, while the rest of us pay extra taxes to accomodate their lack of character!

EC&T's Mommy said this in her post that I 'liked", "No I do NOT see the point anywhere in this call." I truly appreciated EC&T's M's thoughts, but I should have paid better attention, as I DO see the point of the caller. We have so many bureaucrats with a vested interest in keeping the welfare doles filled, (to capacity to insure their jobs) that as the woman says, every day there's a new program being offered to the so called under served segments of our society. We and our politicians have created this mess, and only by demanding that our politicians answer, will matters ever improve.

Btw...this is my brothers friend, not mine. Disability is HUGE these days. Mostly I think for "back" issues.

And Eva, not only that but this guy also got back disability pay from the date that he filed. I think it took him like 2 yrs, with the help of an attorney so he also got a check for around 20k back pay.

There seems to be a lack of personal pride and no sense of responsibility in a huge segment of our society, and that is a sad failing of us as a society. How little people must think of themselves to believe they can't do anything but mooche off of the rest of us. :-(
