Do you own a business on main street in the downtown area - or do you have a house? I for one beleive they do not belong in the city Both Then you should beleive that they do not have a place in the city.

While it is okay to disagree with someone, where does the intense hatred come from? He wants what we do. Streator to be a better place to live. His methods may be maddening at times but he is passionate about it. Maybe it's that passion that we lifers have given up on. Oh, it's Streator. Not an excuse, we've just come to accept that things won't get done until a change is made. We've been broken by a lack of response from our leaders. I plan to keep putting my name on the ballot because I want to see better for us. And I'll keep running despite getting creamed in the election because I care. Cut the man some slack and get passionate about making Streator a better place to live. I am passionate about Streator - not about Kyle Mitchell - too wishy washy Too much of a weasel Too much of a liar You can support his cause......I will not .......

Then you should beleive that they do not have a place in the city. I can see not being able to run loose in the city, but what is really wrong with allowing them? The only way I know Kyle has them is because of what is posted here. I was at the Ace Hardware parking lot and other than seeing the fencing, I didn't see any chickens, hear any chickens or smell any chickens. Other than your belief that having chickens in the city limits, might seem a little "hillbilly" what is the problem with chickens for personal use? So tell me why "I" should believe they should not have a place in the city?

It was in Facebook that 8 chickens produce less waste than 1 dog.
And chickens 4 to 8 hens should be allowed on a property zoned as Residential. I don't agree with chcikens being on a rooftop. For example, on the top of the Krogers store.
Freshest eggs. Just laid.

Many places where chickens and gardens are being grown are on rooftops in major metropolitan areas that don't have ground to have these things. The rooftop is the only viable space.

Good Point, but I am sticking my ground - they should not be in the downtown area. If he wants a farm - with all the money that he said his son makes at Flips and how good they are doing - then they can move out of the downtown area and buy a farm -

Apparently you haven't been around many chickens. First lets go back a minute. Many of you including myself, meaning me, didn't even know he had chickens up there. Now the cat is out of the bag and suddenly it's a problem. Why? Because it's "Myself" that has them. Until now these chickens never caused a problem. All of you on this issue are making it a Myself issue when in reality its a citizen of streator issue. Because of this sudden influx to ban chickens, me, myself, and you now will not be able to have them and thats a shame. I was seriously considering it. hell large municipalities have chickens. like it said somewhere else during ww2 it was unpatriotic not to have chickens. trust me 2 laying hens or even 3 for that matter is not going to cause a problem. i mean you havent noticed them before now, did you. It's not like he has them in the store. Nobody seemed ride a posse into town when there were scrappy cats crapping in store front windows or naked babies. What are you all so afraid of? I'll give you the rooster excuse because its a legitimate one, but laying hens are not a nuisance, or smelly as long as they are maintained. i don't see any piles of crap pouring off the roof top, and just by reading some of what myself wrote I can tell he is taking care of them properly. do some simple searching on the internet. there are some really nice chicken coops, and some great tips on maintenance. Chickens can be very entertaining, they get rid of unwanted bugs, eat table scraps, provide fertilizer, and you get high protein food out of them. What does your dog or cat or even a hamsters provide. Oh...wait I touched a nerve I bet. Thats… thats one of your family members. How dare I say such a thing. Well it's the same difference. How many of you had a fit when the city announced they were going to do a census of the dogs in town. how many of you were upset that it was ONLY the dogs in town. It's the if it doesn't affect me I dont care attitude. Theres plenty of things going on in this town that are waaaaay more important to be so concerned and so uptight about. Then pick on some guy for good intentions, but poor...very poor delivery. I feel sad that after everything this jerk has posted about how stupid the people in Streator are.....you still feel that you should stick up for him....... l agree that there are so many things in the city that need to be changed, but chickens in the downtown area will not help property values, bring in new people, clean up the city or stop crime etc.......... Yes, I myself have been around chickens. Yes, I noticed them, how could you not....he makes sure that we all notice everything that he does. He has to be the center of attention and likes to get his picture in the paper for one reason or another. If he wants fresh eggs then he should go buy them, move to a farm, hell buy a farm.......raise animals there -outside city limits. Hawk...........do you want to be able to come to the downtown area and see cows, chickens, goats, and pigs in other business'. We all want fresh food for our family Chickens do not belong in the downtown area. This affects all of us in the downtown area. If the chickens are good for him, all the business' in the downtown area will be able to have farm animals too. Let's get real.......not even just downtown, maybe the Kroger, the Walmart etc........No he did not do this with good intentions..........He did this to get to the City. This time he is in the wrong........I am standing my ground on this one I'm not here to defend him. I'm here to voice my opinion, knowledge about the situation, and the rights of a citizen. That's what concerns me the most. i'd do the same thing if it was someone else. You said "chickens in the downtown area will not help property values, bring in new people, clean up the city or stop crime etc.........." Ok so then what difference does it make it theyre there or not. Lets say for example, because I'm not sure of time frame, that Myself had these chickens for the past year on the roof. Until about a week ago nobody cared they were there. Because nobody knew about them, and they hadn't affected the downtown in any way positively or negatively. They obviously didn't hurt business. Ok, so now lets take a look at it from a slightly different perspective. How many others have chickens on their roofs in downtown? We don't know just like we didn't know Myself had any. Are they hurting business? Are the walls crumbling because of the weight of chickens? i haven't seen it happen. I don't have to worry about coming into downtown and worry about seeing a cow or pig or horse because all of them are band, and for good reason. I believe sassypants pointed it out very well. Just like she pointed out give an example has to how chickens have hurt business. She gave several as to how they havent.

I don't care who has chickens and where they have them. What I am concerned about is what is done with the waste they produce. I just don't want to see the waste washed off the roof and down a drain spout onto the alley or roadway. Other than that, who cares. A couple of laying hens are not producing any more waste then the countless pigeons flying in and out of the downtown buildings. I'll tell you what, I know I don't have to worry about stepping in chicken crap when i walk through the City Park.

Point taken on the pigeons, Hawk. ?? In Chicago there are many "green" rooftops now with grass, trees, bushes, etc. haven't seen any chickens yet but I don't see a problem as long as they have food, water and shade and are cared for.

Sanatation is a problem - did you ever go into his shop - before the chickens it smelled like sewage - now can you imagine..................... Feel sorry for his neighbors
