There is a special City Council meeting tomorrow morning at 8:30am to out-law chickens. This is only being done because I complain about the council not doing anything about the bar fights. My chickens have not been a problem to anyone. Everyone in town should be able to have them. Ordinances being created to go after individual residents because of a vendetta, I feel is an abuse of their power. I hope people can show up tomorrow or call City Hall today to support what is right. I do believe they will have to allow you to be grandfathered in, at least until such time as you no longer have Chickens. I would consult competent legal advice on the matter at least. I better run out and get me a cow and some pigs......I have till 8:30 am to et grandfathered in.......

Chickens don't have any place w/in the city limits IMO. The neighborhoods of Streator where my family and friends live are quiet and peaceful. How much noise do you think someone who decides to start breeding and raising chickens will cause? Kyle wants to talk about wanting to clean up Streator, but yet half the time when I come home to visit, I have seen houses with junk cars, toys, garbage, etc. littering the front yards. How can people be expected to properly raise and house chickens on their personal property, when they don't take care of it as it is? Kyle, give one good reason as to how the downtown area would look better for any possible incoming business when they see a family living on a rooftop raising squabbling chickens? I would take the sounds of a 5-10 minute bar fight any night of the week over the sounds of chronic clucking. Yet, now that he has been caught, he wants it to be made legal? Again all part of his "ME, ME, ME" whiny attitude. Go to the meeting like me and protest........

Don't you know he doesn't have the money to hire lawyers? That was his excuse for the city allegedly picking on him when they wouldn't let him hold his clean up of the park. At least that's what he wants you to believe. What Kyle left out was the city council never told him he couldn't have his event. What they told him was that it being geared more as a community event, they did not feel it should be used for campaigning/political views. Never once, did they say he could NOT organize an event to clean up the park. Kyle's problem is he hears one thing, no matter how constructive or critical, and his little pea sized mind twists it, so he can generate an excuse to run around town crying about being picked on. I find it amazing Kyle has all these great ideas for Streator and talks about how we need better city council members, but yet whenever it is suggested he runs for council, he has some excuse for why he can't or shouldn't. We have heard the same song and dance from him the past two elections and we are hearing it again for the 2015 election. Personally, I think Kyle knows he doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of EVER winning a city council election because people are quickly losing trust in him as a potential candidate & community member. We all are starting to see through his lies, manipulations, and twisting.

TO THE PEOPLE OF STREATOR, Cruse night is near. I am going to try to contact Kyle for permission to put up a donation stand in front of FLIPS. all proceeds are to go towards Kyle for a one way ticket out of town including transportation for the chickens and a years worth the RENT at a house out of state. that should be enough time for Kyle to get a real job and a real life. You are the best - What a great great great idea!!!!! All in!!!!!!!!

Sniper, you were probably thinking of three Latin words when you said: "I do believe they will have to allow you to be grandfathered in, at least until such time as you no longer have Chickens."
The City, however, may be thinking of the reasoning in O'Grady v. Libertyville (304 F.3d 719)

My personal opinion is Kyle was looking for a fight and researched ordinances that he could push the City's buttons with and found it with chickens in a commercial zone. This is exactly where he wants to be.

WOW...what is this a vigilante to run him out of town on a rail? What's next white robes with hoods...or ummm chicken suits? WTH?!? Although I'm not in agreement with KYLE and family having chickens on top of a roof on a downtown business, which I do think that to just be wrong in ohhhh so many ways especially to "promote" downtown businesses. I would never succumb to saying such a thing as you just did. SAD that it has now gotten to this kind of retaliation. In my opinion I think that KYLE is retaliating against City Hall and those that do matter there regarding the issues at hand that he and his family while living above their downtown business have been experiencing of a night from the local bar across the street. He thinks that he has found a "loophole" so to speak by acquiring chickens to house on his downtown store roof. ALTHOUGH.......... I don't begrudge anyone from wanting to eat healthier, in fact I do endorse that...... BUT go buy those "fresh farm eggs" from GOATLADY for God's sake, and quit this pot that you are stirring. WHY as a business man KYLE would you in turn bite the hand that feeds you, and not try to "CO - EXIST" with all the downtown area businesses that you should be in a sense brothers with? This WHOLE issue I just shake my head at....and it is quite sad, sad indeed. I truly thought in the beginning that you KYLE had great ideas of anticipation for the betterment, and for the future of our fine town here...and this all is really a let down. M

I hv to weigh in on the 'squabbly chickens' and smelly chicken sh it. A friend if mine has apr 20 chickens..they are neither squabby or smelly. If kyles chickens are on his roof, how did anyone even know they were there?
I am glad though, that we r talking about his chicken and not about his nuts.

Again all part of his "ME, ME, ME" whiny attitude. Apparently you haven't been around many chickens. First lets go back a minute. Many of you including myself, meaning me, didn't even know he had chickens up there. Now the cat is out of the bag and suddenly it's a problem. Why? Because it's "Myself" that has them. Until now these chickens never caused a problem. All of you on this issue are making it a Myself issue when in reality its a citizen of streator issue. Because of this sudden influx to ban chickens, me, myself, and you now will not be able to have them and thats a shame. I was seriously considering it. hell large municipalities have chickens. like it said somewhere else during ww2 it was unpatriotic not to have chickens. trust me 2 laying hens or even 3 for that matter is not going to cause a problem. i mean you havent noticed them before now, did you. It's not like he has them in the store. Nobody seemed ride a posse into town when there were scrappy cats crapping in store front windows or naked babies. What are you all so afraid of? I'll give you the rooster excuse because its a legitimate one, but laying hens are not a nuisance, or smelly as long as they are maintained. i don't see any piles of crap pouring off the roof top, and just by reading some of what myself wrote I can tell he is taking care of them properly. do some simple searching on the internet. there are some really nice chicken coops, and some great tips on maintenance. Chickens can be very entertaining, they get rid of unwanted bugs, eat table scraps, provide fertilizer, and you get high protein food out of them. What does your dog or cat or even a hamsters provide. Oh...wait I touched a nerve I bet. Thats… thats one of your family members. How dare I say such a thing. Well it's the same difference. How many of you had a fit when the city announced they were going to do a census of the dogs in town. how many of you were upset that it was ONLY the dogs in town. It's the if it doesn't affect me I dont care attitude. Theres plenty of things going on in this town that are waaaaay more important to be so concerned and so uptight about. Then pick on some guy for good intentions, but poor...very poor delivery.

I feel sad that after everything this jerk has posted about how stupid the people in Streator are.....you still feel that you should stick up for him....... l agree that there are so many things in the city that need to be changed, but chickens in the downtown area will not help property values, bring in new people, clean up the city or stop crime etc.......... Yes, I myself have been around chickens. Yes, I noticed them, how could you not....he makes sure that we all notice everything that he does. He has to be the center of attention and likes to get his picture in the paper for one reason or another. If he wants fresh eggs then he should go buy them, move to a farm, hell buy a farm.......raise animals there -outside city limits. Hawk...........do you want to be able to come to the downtown area and see cows, chickens, goats, and pigs in other business'. We all want fresh food for our family Chickens do not belong in the downtown area. This affects all of us in the downtown area. If the chickens are good for him, all the business' in the downtown area will be able to have farm animals too. Let's get real.......not even just downtown, maybe the Kroger, the Walmart etc........No he did not do this with good intentions..........He did this to get to the City. This time he is in the wrong........I am standing my ground on this one

Good lord, I saw the other thread and I held my tongue but.... Chickens are NOISY nasty animals and towns are for PEOPLE not ANIMALS. Maybe there was a time in the past when more people had them BUT Now I can go to a STORE and buy a chicken. I can BUY eggs. (People used to go sh*t in a shed in the backyard, things CHANGE) If you ever had to CLEAN those fresh eggs and chickens you know its REALLY NOT worth it. LOL If you dont clean the sh*t off the shells well you really run the risk of salmonella poisoning I can't see that it is even of any advantage to raise your own in a city. By the time you buy the feed how is it cheaper then going to the store? AND... Most folks just try to keep the roosters for fighting, not hens for laying. They are NOISY and really suck being in a neighborhood with them crowing first thing in the morning. (Maybe they could just ban the roosters?)
