I found the type of seed you put out helps somewhat to discourage the sparrow and grackles. I use safflower seed or black oiled sunflower seed mostly. you will still get a few sparrows.

the red ball i use for ground peanuts works the best, because the sparrows have a harder time getting through the finer screen, although you still get sparrows on it
the second one which is more open attracts more sparrows, because it's so easy to pull the peanuts out through larger openings

When I had my pine trees, I used to take the pine cones, coat in peanut butter and roll in bird seed. They loved it. I am having hunmnmingbird wars over here!

My sparrows go nutz for the oiled sunflower seeds, regular bird seed and suet, too. I'm going to check out that peanut feeder Super. Thanks!

I haven't seen a squirrel on my corn in days. the heat is scaring all the wildlife away except for the 20 or 30 hummingbirds at my feeders daily.

As was predicted here this spring, I just waited, did not waste any suet on the GRACKLES & they migrated away. Hummingbird wars over here too. We can look out the rear window & see several going after the canna blooms. Almost any time of the day no less. Neat.
