Some 1.34 million tonnes – equivalent to almost 540 Olympic pools – are now stored in around a thousand steel containers at the seaside site, and now there is no more space, authorities say. Japan decided in 2021, after years of discussion, that it would release at most around 500,000 litres per day into the sea via a pipe one kilometre (0.6 miles) long.

The amount of radiation that will be released after discharge and dilution in seawater will be less than a navy submarine sailor serving reactor watch gets in a year less than .0001rads. If there's any nation that's knows better than Japan how to deal with radioactive contamination safely it would be us and our own NEST teams are supporting it.
