We have been reporting crimes for decades in this town. I've seen the police literally refuse to take a report on against an aggravated assault case until the father of the victim my own father threatened to literally in front of a former police chief to find the person who attacked me and remove his head by strapping him to his 5th wheel of his truck. That's what it took to get the police to even charge the person 30 freaking years ago.
The former police chief was just a beat cop at the time. This same officer was the chief when the former carnival worker killed a kids mother after assaulting several members of this community over several weeks.

if going to city council meetings solved anything we wouldn't have the problems we do now. the city council doesn't have the answer but are trying. I don't agree with rocket and his thinking. putting more security cameras up, hiring more officers or fixing the cameras we have now will not solve the problems in town. getting license plate readers will help somewhat but what will have a positive effect on the crime in town is citizen involvement and reporting crimes. it seems like the problems are at certain areas of the city and certain houses. start by putting pressure on the homeowners of these slums. actions speak louder than words. there is no magic cure for what is ailing Streator.

Sounds to me your the problem. That you don't want anything done involving police or cameras. What are you hiding from? I'm sick and tired of people speeding in this town. People got to be going 50mph by the city park in a 25mph zone and hitting around 80mph by the time the are by walmart. People going 50 +in from of the high-school. This crap needs to stop. And yes I support speed cameras. Then cops don't have to waste time doing radar and pulling you over. You just get a ticket in the mail. Drive the speed limit.

What do you think the piggies do all day, eat donuts and drink coffee? I am willing to bet my movie theater and even you speed. It’s funny how you think you have all the answers, but yet refuse to do anything about the issue. Three(3) people spoke at the last city council meeting and spoke their mind. Streator is FULL of keyboard warriors. Everyone like to complain about issues, but refuse to engage to be part of the solution. I do not see any conversation about the city manager on here. Keep in mind that he oversees all city functions and transactions. The mayor is not from the Chicago area, but from around here. The police chief is. Let me ask you something, how is a police chief supposed to prevent shootings? They are one man or woman is some cities. They are not mind readers and can detect when someone is going to commit a crime. Iook at the state of society right now. People have their feelings hurt because they get told how it is. And no one is held accountable for their actions all across the world. Hunter Biden brought cocaine into the White House and will not be held accountable for it. He accepted a plea deal to a gun charge with only a slap in the wrist. If prosecutors did their job and locked these people up in their actions, the streets would be so clean. Instead we worry about the criminal’s feelings and want to blame the victim. This is the mayor or chief of police or illinois state police fault. This is societies fault for people not being held responsible in life. You want to make a change, I’ve heard the police department is hiring, applying and put your money where your mouth is. Do not complain on an online forum or streator happenings and think something is going to be done.

When you have someone in "authority" who doesn't even recognize the threat to the community (you know, the tax payers) what kind outcome would anyone expect? www.shawlocal.com/news/2023/06/05/streator-police-investigating-a-homicide-after-shooting-occurred-sunday-afternoon/ Streator police received reports of two cars whose occupants were shooting at each other about 1:22 p.m. in the area of the 400 block of North Everett Street, Franklin said.
The man tried to drive from the scene but ended up crashing his car into a house on the southeast corner of Elm and Shabbona streets.
The incident is considered isolated with no known threat to the public, said Deputy Chief Robert Wood.
So let me get this straight. No KNOWN threat to the public on a Sunday afternoon on the 4th of July weekend in the middle of a neighborhood filled with families doing what families do on a Sunday afternoon while criminals drive around shooting at each other in the middle of the street and then a car crashes into a house but there is no known threat to the public. I mean is it really necessary to point out the blatantly obvious to someone in a position of authority whose SWORN DUTY is to protect the community?? The flagrant disregard here is stunning but unfortunately not the least bit surprising............

The shootings definitely need to stop though.

That is precisely the attitude that brings these animals to the streets. Maybe his next statement should be an appeal to the animals to "take themselves to the alleys" like they did in Chicago........

If you’re not in the gang you’re ok You're not ok. Gangs don't care if innocent people are in the cross fire. They could care less if an innocent bystander is killed. These are not isolated incidents. Did you know there was a stabbing today on barhart st? Again not isolated incidents. People are in danger in this town getting killed. And nobody stopping the shootings.
