It has been a few years now sense you started your strawberry patch now. I am surprised they have not done better for you by now. The last few years the berries have been a little on the small side so this year I plan on getting them some nutrients and maybe that will help. What kind of nutrients NOK? Blue don't trim the Strawberries back just dig them up and transplant them to grow elsewhere or give the starts too someone else to start a patch and if you don't know of anyone and when you do it let me know I will take them. I also went out to FS by the Moose and yes they do soil samples and send them of to be analyzed so you know what your soil is missing if anything. It takes 1-2 weeks depending on when they come to pickup the sample from them. The coast is $20.00 I will be bringing my sample out there tomorrow.

I'll let you know, I have a gf who has a big garden & cans veggies etc. If she doesn't want them, I'll let you know. Those, from "around the corner" are in "dirt-only" as it wasn't meant for them. Last year they were getting pretty big, so for now I won't test the soil. I'll see how they do.

No worries if she takes them it is OK........... I mixed the black dirt with sand when I put my Strawberry patch in. I was told to do that so the ground would hold moisture for them longer. The first two years were great I had to then them out. That when I gave you and others starter plants.
We lost a lot of shade in the yard after the tornado and I thing we couldn't keep them watered enough and that is why I have seen such a difference in the size of the strawberries and lack of new runners for new plants.
The trees are getting bigger now and I hope that helps also again.

I know my Uncle loves his big garden and with all the extras he puts them on a card table out front for the taking.
This year he still hasn't had his tilled yet to wet I think.

The garden of mine is tilled, started to put potatoes in but will finish up with that tomorrow. Tomorrow I will also put in the onions. Then Down the line, I will plant the rest of the garden. Slowly but surely.

My Grandma used to grow English peas and boy they were good. (I loved her sweet corn, too) My folks were never into gardening, so I wasn't taught how to. (or want to). When staying w/ Grandma, it was up at 7AM in the Summer and out to work in the garden. I hated it as a kid. My bro and I were at the old place a few years ago. We both looked over where the garden used to be and just shuddered. He is into growing beautiful flowers bushes now. Got a pic the other day from him. I'll just grab my sack and go "shopping" in the alley later on this summer.

I think that Streator would benefit on having a community Garden. There are plenty of empty lots that could e used for a community garden.

When my daughter was going to college, she organized a community garden. Many showed up the first week. After that, she was the only one that maintained it.
