Well, I went back up today to fetch the report at the Police Station. No can do. She handed me a slip directing me to a third party pay as you go to get a report for $15. I took it to my Agent and She was surprised. She said She shouldn't have to pay it out of HER pocket, I agree. I said I shouldn't have to pay out of mine either and She agrees. She is going to contact the home office and see what they say. We can't use the website even if we wanted to, it requires the birth date of the other party since it is filed under their name. Evidently this whole pay to get a police report scheme is a STREATOR thing. Not County or State. Well, that's fvked up. There should have at least been something more on the piece of paper that allowed you access to the report. Seems like the system has a few wrinkles that need to be ironed out.

There most likely in no physical police report. Everything is on computer now.
As far as fire departments, I believe that most do that. It's a small yearly fee, and if you contribute, then have a fire, you are good to go. I might be wrong, but I think that's how grand ridge does it, and most volunteer fire departments. NOT just in this area. I think reading has their firefest to cover new equipment, etc. Grand ridge has a steak fry.

I don't know, from what I've heard maybe giving free cones and suggesting that they turn their heads to your fees might be a solution.
Maybe they will do away with the fees in the future. Our City should be flush with cash once our hospital closes and the low health care costs for employers repatriates the jobs lost overseas over last 25 years. Isn't it going to be wonderful when that happens?

Guys like you...Government is supposed to work for us... Our tax dollars paid for that police report to be generated the first time, now we should have to pay to see it.. They are not supposed to be able to tax us twice for the same thing, seems to be what is happening here...

Evidently this goes well beyond our little town. The website is serving multiple states. Streator is just early and anxious to join and jump on the bandwagon. As for double taxation....it happens all the time. Consider tires you buy. Sales tax when you buy it and disposal fees to get rid of it. Cigarettes get sales tax plus all sorts of extra sin taxes on it, same with booze. I don't know. I know it costs a fee to get a copy of your marriage certificate, birth certificate, divorce decree and other legal documents. Passports cost money and so do driver's licenses, foid cards and all sorts of other stuff. This just strikes me as WRONG. I am 'AGIN' it. I know the freedom of information act is just for federal government.....but I know that most states have similar public information rights programs. FOIA applies to municipalities as well. The newspaper has talked about filing notices with the City several times. I've filed one too, asking for their industrial zoning justification for Aquaponics. Their response was that it did not describe any public document. I was already thinking that you should try filing a notice, just to see what they do. There is even a spot on the form for a reason why you don't think a fee should be charged for the piblic information. Being a small amount of information and being for personal use are typical reasons for agencies to not charge. I would add things like to be able to regain use of your property destroyed by others, to allow your child to continue being a contributing member of society.

Well SPD is adamant that this is their system and it is now the law of the land. They claim it is filed electronically and don't have a 'paper copy' available anyway. Pay up to Crashreport.com........... It's the only way....... I DID file a freedom of information act form. I don't really WANT to be a pain in the rear, I just want my accident report...... I feel the report was generated by SPD and if they can't retrieve a copy.....that's not really my problem.....LOL Maybe they can go buy me a copy then. Stay tuned as news develops. I DID talk to the Attorney General's office. ********update************* Attorney Generals office called back with someone taking keen interest in the case. They suggested I reference a section 3a of the Illinois freedom of information act. It reads as follows: (5 ILCS 140/3) (from Ch. 116, par. 203) Sec. 3. (a) Each public body shall make available to any person for inspection or copying all public records, except as otherwise provided in Sections 7 and 8.5 of this Act. Notwithstanding any other law, a public body may not grant to any person or entity, whether by contract, license, or otherwise, the exclusive right to access and disseminate any public record as defined in this Act. Seems pretty straighforward that they can't give a 3rd party website exclusive rights to the documents. It's not only wrong ethically or morally, it's also in violation of law. They also schooled me a little about doing a review if I don't get favorable results and want to do things more formally. Again I don't mean to be a pain in the rear, I just want my accident report. I spoke to someone in the insurance lobbyist's office for Illinois, I was transferred to some Supervisor's voicemail and recorded a message.(don't you just hate voicemail?) Again, what is to keep places from charging $50 or $100 or even more? Whatever will promise the PD more in kickbacks...... This is not just about MY $15 it is about EVERYONE's $15. This practice needs to be stopped sooner than later. Do you really think that with all the cities across the country involved in this website that all have taken measures to make sure it's legal? Come on.......

If you read the act old timer, it says they cannot contract it away. Of course it's all in how you interpret it.
