I agree with the majority of what you said. However, it's that last little bit that I don't. The court doesn't define marriage? Marriage is a union between two people, whether the church agrees with it or not. No, the court does not have the power to determine the meaning of a word. This is what pisses me off so bad about this issue, both sides are SPOILING for a fight, and NEITHER will take an objective look at what the role of religion and the state is in regards to interpersonal relationships. For purposes of the state, the ONLY thing that it has purvey over is the legal rights and responsibilities of a relationship. For purposes of the state, it makes no difference if it is man/woman, man/man, woman/woman, for that matter 7 women and a man. There are SPECIFIC civil rights and legal obligations inherent in the relationship. Notice nothing about marriage, just the legalities of the union. The Bible very clearly defines a Marriage as the union of a man and a woman, but past that, what legal rights does it convey? Exactly, NONE, NADA,ZIP. Therefore, the only logical thing to do to protect not only every single citizens civil rights, but to protect our various religious institutions, and quite frankly, the notion of good old common sense, would be to issue civil cohabitation licenses for each and every one who applies to the state. Well... We may not agree on the religion part, but I do have to say you are trying for equality.

each state should have been able to vote on same sex marriages. this wasnt about same sex marriages as much as getting the same rights granted to them as a man and woman has. religion and state has to be seperate because they hardly ever agree on things such as abortion or marriages. if a gay couple want to marry and belong to a church that rstricts this type of marriage the pastor will not marry them even if the supreme court says its legal.

I think everyone should stay out of it. Should be a Church sanctioned deal. WTH did we do before licensing became the rule? what about common law marriage? Some states allows common law marriages and others don't. My spouse and I got married in front of a judge. Still had to pay to get a license to get married. Does not matter whether you get married in a church or by a judge. A license you have to pay for.

Folks need to mind their own business...life goes on no matter what.

Maybe they should only hire people who are athiest Into government office. That way anything they do that defies GOD'S LAWS they will face going to hell come judgment day.least religious people wouldn't be forced To do a job that goes against there religious beliefs.

How about only hire people who are willing to do the job regardless of religious affiliation. If you disagree with a particular requirement of a job then don't pursue that career.

We have every right to disagree. We just have to follow the laws. Who in their right mind has an animal fetish!?!
