Ironeagle, I did not say that Streator doesn't have such an ordinance. I said that Streator isn't alone in that stance. I know that MM doesn't care for a lot of rules that our city has and I simply pointed out that very near his place of business someone did try to start a trailer park and it was shot down by Livingston County. And there is no ordinance against having a prebuilt in the City. A fellow put one in a couple of years ago over on Coal Street and yes he had to enclose it, and he didn't complain about it. He tried to buy the junk trailer that sits on the corner of Coal and Montgomery and someone else got it at the back taxes sale. He would have torn it down. Contrary to your belief Ironeagle, not a lot of people want trailers by their homes. And I don't believe you have to have a garage to have a driveway, but you do have to get the permit to do it. It must be gravel, black top or concrete. What's wrong with that?

I am happy we have that ordinance too. There is a trailer on Hoyne street that squeaked in somehow. I think it brings the value of other homeowners property down.

Here's the reality behind requiring slabs under mobile/modular homes...We live in a region where tornado's occur and, if you simply plop one down anywhere, they can't be properly secured...We also have to consider the fact that there are many mines under Streator...The ground in some places simply is not stable enough to support any type of structure... There are some beautiful pre-fab homes on the market these days, and they're not the '70's trailers that people liken them to...If they're done properly, I don't see anything wrong with having them in town...

17.64.200 - Unlawful to park manufactured home except as permitted herein. It is unlawful for any person to keep, park, store, or maintain a manufactured home in the city outside a manufactured home park, which is duly licensed hereunder, except as specifically permitted in this chapter. (Ord. 2004/05-17 ยง 1 (part)) Right from the City's OWN Code Book. Meaning NO NEW Mobile HOMES IN STREATOR unless in the Parks. So all those Vacant Lots that could GO BACK ON THE TAX ROLLS with affordable Housing the City Council is saying SCREW YOU to. IE, all that addresses is a true House Trailer, NOT HUD approved manufactured housing. If one wishes to put a HUD approved manufactured home in the city proper, all it would take is one phone call to HUD to insure a come to Jesus moment for the city. That being said, there is NO WAY I would willingly let a true Trailer be put next to my home, there is a HUGE difference. I sat on the ZBA when those zoning ordinances were put in place, none of us saw anything wrong with the way they were written. Willy, I will back IE on the city screwing with people it does not like via. the code enforcers, at least in the past ( I have been out of the city for 10 years now ). 2 cases I had personal knowledge of was a prominent local Democrat and businessman who code enforcement decided he needed to paint his downspouts, and a case where the 90 year old widow of a prominent local Minister who was harassed for a tire setting alongside her garage, it was on a rim, inflated, and behind the fence where for anyone to see it, they had to look over the fence. Granted, those are both "minor" incidences to the city fathers, but to the 90 year old widow who didn't know it was there ( she couldn't get around very well ) who was absolutely panicked by the city or the poor guy who had a very small amount of peeling paint on his downspouts while roofs were falling in all over the city, it is harassment, pure and simple. That code enforcer has since retired, perhaps it is all better now, then again, perhaps there are more with visions of importance floating thru their head.

If code enforcement actually did their job, many houses in Streator would be condemned...

What was the fire department looking at ontop of the majestic yesterday? They were high above the building on the tower truck. Were they looking for code violations?

Speaking of the Majestic - I noticed there is a SOLD sign from Canales in one of the upper windows...Wonder how long that has been there...

No1, that sounds like a great idea. Plenty of homes would hit the list. Once you establish the list, who's going to pay for the demolition if the people choose not to fix the violations? Every year the list keeps getting longer and it's the taxpayers that foot the bill. Just guessing, the city has spent close to 500K in the last 15 years. Everyone reading this could add two homes they'd like to be seen torn down. Someone suggested the city tear down the old Streator National Bank. Imagine the cost to do that, and nobody has the kind of money to wast trying to make it into the suggested hotel. Takes money to do everything.
Snipe,, I can only imagine who might have been writing up violations ten years ago. One person comes to mind that may have, but since the fire department has taken over I haven't heard of many complaints. People that complain the most are usually those in non-compliance, but their neighbors very seldom complain once they're written up. But, in all cases people are given so many days to come into compliance, to get a ticket those people usually don't comply until the city takes them to court. Honestly, I've never heard of a requirement to paint down spouting.

Wiily, that is the price Streator will have too pay......since this town does not have the help like Ottawa has, Ottawa has a program too help people fix their Homes for little or nothing out of pocket! why not Streator?

What's the name of that program? Do you have any details? I can't believe a city would pay to fix homes at no cost to homeowner.

You have to talk to Streator united way and ask them to start up a program for Streator. Ottawa united way only goes to grand ridge to the south . Dk if it is because we have our own united way or whatever else the reason is why they won't come to Streator.

What was the fire department looking at ontop of the majestic yesterday? They were high above the building on the tower truck. Were they looking for code violations? Golly, maybe they were just exercising the ladder truck? You know, every once in a while running it up to make sure everything works?

I guarantee you know both of the people, you might have even bought Insurance from him.......
