My kids always loved the tide pools. And we got to watch the Belugas mate once when we were there. Def hit the Art Museum next time. You can always catch the train, also.

We go the way of Peoria, alot. We like to go to the riverfront. The Peoria Zoo, as well, as Wildlife Prairie Park, are cool, too. Lakeview Museum, had different, displays. We went, once and it was all Rennisance(I think, that is the correct term) display. Paintings, I guess on loan. Not sure how that works, but it was really neat. I know nothing about art, but, I sure did like what I saw. Heavily guarded, I might add. It is now the Riverfront Museum, I believe. There is alot to do around Peoria.

Springfield has many things. There is an art fair in May by the old Capitol building. They have a kids tent where kids can pick out art work for under $15. Our kids picked out some neat things for my brother and us and inlaws. Streator has some nice things too if you have never seen them. Weber house, historical society building, garden walk, Defenbaugh museum just past 4 mile corner to name a few.

When I went through scuba dive training, the instructor was a close friend of the guy who ran the Shedd Aquarium. He told the class that he could arrange it so anyone in the class could swim with the fish in the aquarium. To my knowledge, no one accepted the offer. I suspect that the other students felt like I did: I didn't want to look like Dustin Hoffman in the Graduate.

When visiting my folks in the 90's, I always took my kids to Dwight to get on the train to Chicago. First stop was the Shedd Aquarium. Then a boat ride through the harbor and back home in time for dinner. Great day trip.

A little closer to home, is Starved Rock Glass in Ottawa. You can watch her make hand blown glass or even take classes.
When my granddaughter came before Christmas we went and it was just the 2 of us. My granddaughter loved it. When she comes this summer, im taking her back.

Chicago has dozens of interesting places to visit, and I have been to most of them many times. Three that many people miss are the ones below. In the first, you can watch early TV shows and programs such as the Kennedy-Nixon debates. You can also see old television sets and buy old radio shows: Long Ranger, Shadow, etc. The second link offers numerous tours of the City and its architecture. The third link is to the Oriental Institute located on the University of Chicago's campus. Don't let the word "Oriental" throw you. The museum houses mainly exhibits from ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt. Some of the objects are huge, notably the 70 plus ton winged bull. www.museum.tv/index.htmwww.architecture.org/oi.uchicago.edu/In recent years, visiting Chicago's best known museums has gotten increasingly expensive. Both the admission fees and the parking costs have gotten out of sight. On the "free" days, the crowds are often huge. A couple of years ago, my wife and I stayed in a Loop hotel and took a week long class at the great Art Insitute.

Why not take the north point movie theater and renovate it into. A dance club with multiple types of music for the crowds.

I like to take my guests to Starved Rock Lodge. I love those huge fireplaces they have. If we eat lunch, it is pretty reasonable.

A couple of years ago, our daughters gave us a couple of free nights at the lodge. The naturalist at the park is great. Also, it is close to a number of good restaurants in the LaSalle-Peru area. One of my fraternity brothers runs the park, and we have had a few fraternity reunions there.
