Travel Concerns Illinois Department of Transportation officials are advising residents of impending weather conditions throughout the day. Officials say with a strong west and northwest wind throughout the day and into the evening hours, many roads will experience blowing and drifting snow with lowered visibility at times. National Weather Service meteorologists in Chicago says many areas will see temperatures dip below zero by mid afternoon with wind chills minus-20 to minus-30. Officials say overnight wind chills could dip as low as minus-40 in some spots. Exposure to these wind chills could produce frostbite on skin within as little as five minutes. Officials say if you do not have to be out to stay home.
