Okay...throw the salary schedule out. What should teachers have to do to keep their jobs and/or get a raise? How will fair wages be assigned?
Have at it, snipe...if you've got the answers, every school district in America will beat a path to your door.
For example:
Every school should be asked to be like this? Really?

Butters, simple, adopt any Corporations guidelines you wish.
Oh yea, revise the inane State licensing requirements.
Simple enough, pay what a teacher requires or they will go elsewhere.
It works in the private sector, what makes you think it wont in the public one?
Honestly, have you ever worked in the private sector?

Yeah have you Butters EVER held a Private Sector Job. Not one where some Government Union Determined what is a Fair Wage to Extort from the Taxpayers and that is WHAT the Public Sector Unions do they EXTORT their Wages out of the Taxpayer.
If a OTR Company treats their Drivers like Crap they have trouble Filling seats and Keeping them FILLED. I worked for a Carrier like this and they have a Terminal here in Town here is a Hint they have Maroon Trucks. Yet the Other 2 Carriers based in Streator Calkins and Lucky they never have trouble Filling their Trucks why simple they Treat their Drivers with RESPECT and also treat them like HUMAN BEINGS when it comes to driver Comfort. Millis on the other hand lets just say you better like Being Cold and Hot as they will Shut your Truck off for running it to save that 2 cents a mile in Fuel Costs.

I don't either.
I had my first decade under my belt in the "private" sector while you were still in high school.
It's OKAY to admit you don't know something. Relax.

Butters, then you are pretty doggone OLD. Somehow I think you are all bluster. Of course you do. That's how you mentally and emotionally dismiss arguments you cannot or refuse to refute.
That's just fine with me.

In an effort to deal with the Topic you pose, let's first ask ourselves what is the primary objectives in our Schools. Is it just to educate our Children? Do we expect the Schools to be a pillar of our community? Do we expect them to guide our kids in moral growth? Do we expect Teachers to step in somehow for kids that don't have positive role models at home? Do we expect them to provide food for the hungry kids and jackets for ones that don't have them? Is it just a way to save on Child care expenses for 3/4th's of the year? Personally, I think it is quite a bit more than just Education. If it WERE about just education, we could consider entirely new methods of Education that would be much less labor intensive. (Think about it, we have 'automated' almost everything we do, from farming to manufacturing to office automation.) Anyway, in case any of you get the wrong idea....Teachers ARE important....we ALL are. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone on Streator Online. It's been a pleasure chatting with you all. Good thinking, but when did we abrogate our responsibilities? Hell, why even let the little urchins come home? If we expect the state to do our job, we can just leave them in school until they are 18, they can work for the state to help with their upkeep. Of course I am being facetious, but you do clearly identify the mission creep that has infiltrated education. How do we raise our children to be individuals while simultaneously giving more power over their upbringing to the state? Golly, how about we ask the schools to educate them while maintaining discipline and leave the rest to us? And a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year right back at ya big feller!

Butterbean,
How was that "Christmas Dinner with all the trimming on the TAXPAYER DIME" this year?
You know Prime Rib and everything.
You never shared with the forum where the meal was served.
Was it in DeKalb, where your wife is a Law Professor at NIU?
Tell me again why I, as a taxpayer, should pay for your gluttony?

I think there are many parents who either dont care, or actually want and expect teachers to "take care of their kids" in many aspects of the childs life other than just education. And like you stated, the system seems to be constructed to give more "parental powers" to the school system.

Sorry, religion is too important to be taught in the schools. That is the parent's responsibility. That's why we have Churches. g

I know! You boys think Obama will show up with one of HIS boyfriends!
Mary Christmas, boys!!
