I found a scrape with this name on it. I appears to be a wrap around label. Any ideas? I've never heard of them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASK FOR *** SILVER CREST BREAD ILLINOIS VALLEY BAKE** STREATOR ILLINOIS ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am trying to find out a little information about a brand of bread my Mom used a lot. I have not seen it in many years. The label had on it 'upside down bread'. It was a dense bread, not fluffy and light like a Butternut or Sunbeam. It made good toast. I think it was in a checkered bag, either blue/white or possibly red/white checkers with sort of a country/farm motif. My older Brother thinks it was Pepperidge Farm, but I only remember 'upside down bread'. I have tried doing Google searches a couple of times, but no real leads. Does anyone remember anything about this brand? It was a Butternut bread. They quit making it a long time ago but it was my favorite bread growing up...

All I can find is a bread machine with a similar name. I did find a bread machine with that name myself. maybe the Streator land historical society could be of help.

Ditto ^^ and parts for, bread hook, etc. DD, can you post a pic of that for us here? I'll look back in some of the old directories...but this has been cyber-week...so I've been quite busy. M

It is in such poor shape, taking a pic would be hard and not worth the time. It is the size of a few postage stamp and very brittle.

I was told yesterday that the bakery was located down by the Santa Fe station where Prarie Farms is located now.
