How long has the Newmans brickyard been in Streator? How long has it sat being abandoned and untouched.
When someone buys the property and was told to buy the property to use what they wanted for and declined permits.
HM well they city gave advice to someone to buy the proptery and when they do and get the deed in their hand and rightfully owns the property now the d**n city wants to come in and kick them off of it and condemn the place, when half of the building is usable and one needs a new roof. I hope the city gets charged for damage to proptery.
Well if the f**king city wanted it condemned and tore down they SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT A f**kING LONG TIME AGO... Especially if the f**king neighbors are worried about child saftey, well if you teach your kids right they will probably listen.. nope, we got one on camera for trespassing and damage to propery.
But no city want to stop a business from starting to help save the earth, but can give permits out to other people without hassle and harassment.
I just hope someone from state or the high office will come in and hear about this, cause we will take it to state and hopefully city will b in deep crap, especially the city b*tch.
O she had to put it as an emergency for BODILY HARMING SOMEONE, WHO THE HELL ARE WE HARMING SOMEONE, FOR THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE BY THE SEWAGE PLANT. THEY CAN'T b*tch ABOUT THAT, BUT THEY CAN b*tch ABOUT A BUSINESS TO START RIGHT THERE WHEN IT IS ZONED FOR IT.
How many recycling places in streator takes, paper, plastic, cardboard or your milkjugs? None, every other one has metal, and maybe 1 pallet of newspaper. IF you go to the land fill you will see all this stuff, that doesn't get recycled.

Well for one this is quite vague as to who bought the place? I wasn't aware that it had been sold..........to WHOM though? Wasn't there a fire there some time ago there too? I would think that would be a perfect site for a recycling center, alot better then one downtown, or a block from our main drag per say. And if this place would recycle GLASS and STYROFOAM ................. which our local recycling pick up will not accept........has my vote!!!! JMHO..................... M

Check with the people living in that area. I thought I read in the paper about this that the people in that area were opposed of this idea in their backyards. That maybe the reason for denial.

Good Luck Iplaywow2. I always thought there was good potential down there for SOMETHING. I thought maybe the Neuman family was still hanging on to it. It was in their families for a long time, but I don't think operational for many years now. (It was concrete blocks, not actually bricks, for whatever it's worth.) Recycling the other items would be an asset to the community. I remember when I was young people recycled newspapers. I don't think they have done that in many years now. Along the same lines of recycling, is it better, environmentally, in our semi-rural area to burn or bury our burnable waste. I always thought it might be better to burn what you can and ship off the tin cans and glass with the garbage truck (if you can't recycle). Others seem to think it is better to ship it all off with the garbage truck to get buried and fill up the land fill. Any thoughts? The lady who owned the property sold it, she was done with it and had no use for it anymroe

There was 2 neigbors complaining about it. one lives out by the road who can't see whats going on down in there, and then one up on the hill. which can only see the driveway.

Yes it is and this is who the poster is. Thanks FOT but we were waiting for the OP to admit to it. Anybody remember the mess out on E. Main St. a couple of years ago ? Boxes of wet cardboard and plastics piled up and stacked next to the creek, trailers with junk blowing off of them traveling the highways into town and through town, the smell of burning trash. Who would want another mess like it in the middle of town? A "Thank You" to the Planning Commission and City Council for denying this one.

Let's also not forget the mess left down on 12th street.
History is a good teacher.

This is about the fourth place these folks have wanted to go. Usually they just set up shop without permission, make a mess until the neighbors have had their fill of them and then they cry cause they've been thrown out of a place. This time they did go before the commission and were denied and then voted down by the council. They keep saying how they're going to change their style but they haven't lately. Look how they started their rant. If they really want to start up their business, let them try Livingston County and the regulations that may be imposed on them out there. Guess what? Livingston County doesn't want them either.

I remember them now. They disregarded all epa laws when they were on Livingston rd. Burning stuff they shouldn't have. How many times have reading fire been at that location for a fire? Lost count.
