My whole point is She was abused because of the time limit on the floor made it abuse, the little girl may be picked on now because of how long She was on the floor(month) I think one day would of been more than long enough to get the point across.

I really disagree Butterbean. She is indeed a precious child. I believe 6 years old is plenty old enough to learn right from wrong, to act appropriately, to learn there are consequences for acting up. I had higher expectations for my own child at a far earlier age than 6. So what age do you think kids should be taught to begin being responsible? 8? 10? 12? 16? I do believe the Horse would be out of the Barn by then. Teach your kids while they are young. They are far more clever than you give them credit for. Since She IS such a precious Child, She should be TAUGHT.....that's what my book would say. Now, I DO agree that 4 weeks is a really really long time. Did She mark on stuff previously? Did She show any remorse for what She did? Was there any reason for the ongoing discipline? If some kid was acting smart and showing no remorse and kept marking on the desk, you can bet they would be one sitting on the floor kid and loving it student in my classroom. The thing I find more outrageous is how you react to this situation like a 6 year old should not be instructed or corrected, like they are incapable of learning. Again, just when do you think you should START teaching them appropriate behavior and to be accountable for the things they do? You're off base, Kee-Mo-Sah-Bee. She DID have consequences.
What is listed below was "age-appropriate."
The teacher made her clean it up, she had to go to the principal, and she missed recess.
Sitting on the floor for 4 weeks was absolutely stupid and abusive, never mind the fact that sitting on the floor denied her the right to the same educational assets the other children were getting!
Can you imagine doing the same thing to a black child!!!

The 4 weeks were out of the question. I just simply disagree about the floor/denied desk thing. I think it is perfectly appropriate as Helen pointed out earlier, and for the same reasons. I think a days duration would be plenty unless there were repeat offenses or no remorse. I think abuse is too strong of language, but that is no big deal. Overuse a word and it loses it's power and meaning. I really don't think having a child sit on the floor for a day is abuse in any way, shape or form. I think we had a progressive teacher when I was a kid that used to bring in a guitar and sing and push all the desks aside so we could sit on the floor. It was a 60's/70's thing. We all thought it was kinda cool. I know, one is discipline, the other is not.....but it is still sitting on the floor. You didn't understand a word I said, did you?

I did, I just suggest we see it differently. I am sure we will not convince each other of the other's point. I agree to disagree on this one. You have your point, I have mine. We are miles apart on this one, that's all. I will respectfully refrain from further comment. Miles apart? What?
You don't even understand what you wrote, either.

That was our whole point of the thread as we see it BB the rest just see it as She wrote on the desk and Her parents must not of disciplined Her well enough, well a child will act out from time to time keep in mind a (6) year old) too punish Her is one thing...... But a month is abuse and there is no other way too look at it.
