If people in town started erecting antennas again do you suppose mediacom would start lowering their fees... the only problem with that suggestion is according to the building codes its almost impossible to erect an antenna in the city limits. the city adopted this to stop the antennas when cable came to town. you can erect one as long as its not very high.

there is a restriction on how tall it can be where it is erected. I contacted the city concerning this two years ago when people were thinking of erecting towers for an antenna masked man.

you have to apply for a building permit before starting your project MM. they will deny your permit if it doesn't meet their codes lol.

It is illegal for the city to restrict your receiving a "reasonable" signal. One call to the FCC and the city of Streator would be roundly slapped down.

We have netflix too. I wish we could get cable/dish etc... packages where we could pick our own channels to put in it and pay less. There are a lot of channels I don't even watch

I looked up the rules governing antennas by the FCC. this covers satellite dishes as well as antennas. from what I gather is if the city thinks the height could be a safety hazard then it would be restricted to a certain height sniper. it states any tower over 12 feet in height can be restricted by local requirements. www.ccfj.net/FCClaw.htm

After re-reading it, anything over a 12' mast COULD be a judgment call and a battle. The FCC might very well be on your side and prevail anyway. The burden would be on the City to prove it's case. That still leaves you a lot of leeway. I have an old bungalow that has the peak of the roof up there pretty high. I would guess it is at least 30'-35'. There are a lot of 1.5 and 2 story homes around town that are a lot taller. If you have a simple tripod mount and a 12' mast on top of THAT, you would be up there pretty good. Maybe 45' or more. That should do it and would be less than the height where the City could do ANYTHING about it.(including requiring a permit or fees) I really don't see what the big deal is anyway. 50 years ago LOTS of folks had a full blown tv tower.....city and country alike. back in the mid 60s we had a tower that would have hit the two neighbors houses to our west if it fell lol. like anything the rules are changed as the game is played...........
