Come on Streator Gov't ,find a different cable provider with affordable rates. $93.00 a month for expanded basic is a bit much for what little programming you get. We need another cable company where rates are around $50.00 a month or less with more interesting programs. Straight basic is way less than expanded basic, except the only channels you get under basic is the news channels from ch 2-23.

your best bet is to go over to dish or direct tv rocket. the city just renewed mediacoms contract recently.

Would love to see cable prices come down. Does any company in other areas offer something that low? I have a friend who built a small antenna and is able to get some free HD channels from bloomington or peoria. He then watches other programs on his computer. It is costing him considerably less but he may have to wait a week to see a rerun of a new show.

I am paying $62.99 for Dish. There are no taxes on Dish. That rate is good for a year and then I think it goes up $15 per month next year. I will pay that for a month and then go shopping again. If you talk to the Mediacom customer retention department they might be able to lower your price.

I hear constant complaints about Comcast from fb friends that have it. Same types of complaints that I hear on here about mediacom.
My solution is...I don't have cable. Or satellite. I don't really miss it. I'm so busy, I dont really have time to watch.

They all hook the potential customer and give them a reduced bill for a year, then they sock it to you, they are all the same. If you want premium then you have to pay. Only solution is too get an antenna and put up like 15ft or higher for good reception.

Well, if you decide to go with Directv I can save you $10 a month off of your bill by giving you a coupon code that will also net me a $10 a month discount. That is only good for 8 months, but hey, $80 is $80. We recently switched to Directv.

God I love my Wineguard Antenna............. Zero bucks a month, Chicago programming, something like 63 channels. ( we only use probably 12 of them...... ) Do you have much of a tower Sniper? Best I can do out South here is Peoria with my over the air antenna, but it is still a pretty good choice for FREE HD! I just have a good antenna with a small tripod support on my garage roof. I wasn't getting a strong signal, so I bought a little longer mast for the antenna support. Now it comes in pretty good. ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, 3 channels of PBS I supplement it with a very cheap dish package($20/month) and Netflix. I think if you are over towards Ransom, those few extra miles closer to Chicago helps. I would probably have to have a decent sized tower to pull Chicago out South here. Actually I am not using my tower at all right now. When I lost the last antenna and rotor ( cheap U- bolts holding the rotor on broke ), I just got a new Wineguard HD8200U www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?mc=03&p=HD8200U&d=Winegard-HD8200U-Heavy-Duty-Platinum-VHFUHFFM-HDTV-Antenna-%28HD8200U%29&c=TV%20Antennas&sku=615798398491 and an Amplifier on a 20 foot pipe by the garage. It actually has to point directly at a big Walnut tree and at my Barn, so far doesn't seem to affect it much. I would like to go up another 10 feet or so, but I would have to attach guy wires with the wind we have out here, just something else to do someday.

When your cable goes out you get mad. When you get mad you go to the local cable office to complain. When you go to the local cable office to complain the police get called. When the police get called you go to the county jail. When you go to the county jail you get stripped naked. Don't get stripped naked, switch to dish!

I may have to try an amplifier and going on the roof of the house. My setup generally comes in good, but some conditions makes some of the channels fuzz out. It gets the digital pixels and goes away. It's not like the olds days of snowy pictures with digital. You pretty much get it or you don't. If I raised the antenna to the roof on the house and went with the amplifier, maybe I could get Chicago. Are you able to pull Peoria on the 'back side' of the antenna while pointed at Chicago? No, but interestingly enough, they say there is no old school "ghosting" issues with running dual antennas, so you can point one at Chicago and a much smaller on at Peoria and theoretically get the best of all worlds. One other thing I just learned, for the Chicago market at least, when they went Digital, all stations now run in the UHF band ( 2-13 used to be VHF ), so you can now just buy a Yagi beam for UHF, much, MUCH smaller and more wind resistant. Hmm, I might have to revise my setup...... I see solid source has an extreme UHF Yagi for under 47 bucks......

If people in town started erecting antennas again do you suppose mediacom would start lowering their fees...
