But isn't it you that owns Flips? Or is it your kid? Either way, shouldn't you be PAYING YOUR EMPLOYEES!

I don't know how I missed this thread.
It is my son's business just like I have said all along.
As I've said, he lost interest in being in Streator after being declared illegal hurt his business and then the Mayor took several months to give a requirement that doesn't follow our laws for another business, so he moved to Florida.
He sent the employee paychecks out on Monday like he does every week, but can not control the U. S. Mail. When he found out that the already made out pay checks didn't arrive on Friday, he had them fill out other signed checks at the store to replace them.
Go back and check the comments on that Facebook post and see if it doesn't indicate that she was paid on that very day.
He has just been keeping the store open to try to add some life to downtown Streator, but the hassle of trying to run a store from afar is why we are making some changes.
Thanks for you concern though. Some people just jump at any chance to attack and then others wonder why my message is delivered the way that it is.

Kyle,
From my short term on this "forum," I have figured out your problem. Kyle, you are not a "real local." This forum supports any halfwit who is a local, but beats off anyone who is not a local. Stick around a while, and you will will see how an incestual, "locals only" forum ends up either closing up or ending up as a local "what is going on in town" forum.

HUH? OK...now I am confused? I knew that this was your son's business, but you all lived there...and you own the building though? WHY would he, your son be declared illegal, for what reasoning? Today when lil peanut M and I walked uptown we were hoping to stop into FLIPS..but notice the signs on the doors closed. That child could always find a book, or something in the store. Sorry to hear of this, when you all relocated there and actually DID something constructive for that building, and the downtown area...I was encouraged, and commending upon you. So...........now what though? M

Easy the Mayor and the Good Ole Boy Club declared that Anyone that LIVED above the Downtown Businesses where ILLEGAL RESIDENTS even if they where living in Second floor Residential Designed Spaces aka Apartments that where there that went for people that Rented Apartments Downtown Business OWNERS that LIVED DOWNTOWN EVERYONE that LIVED DOWNTOWN. Why because a few people got their Panties in a bunch when the Baby of the New owners of the Old Rays Paint and Wallpaper store was seen in the Window as they where fixing up the place and then the City MADE THIS DECLARATION. Guess what happened that family Left never opened their Business either.

Sorry to hear of this, when you all relocated there and actually DID something constructive for that building, and the downtown area...I was encouraged, and commending upon you. So...........now what though? M Yes, we all lived there and were all declared illegal residents for it, despite it being recommended by the City's Comprehensive Plan and being allowed by the Accessory Use Clause of the zoning ordinance. We were given no due process to defend our innocence before their declaration. He was the one, as the business owner, who took the blow from it though, and it did hurt his business. We explained it to the City and asked them to acknowledge that we were not illegal, but they just ignored us. Having a City undermine the public's trust in a business owner, can destroy business. I honestly believe that instead of handling the specific problem created by someone trying to develop a space, they used the opportunity to purposely attack the credibility of someone who was vocal about asking for better for our community. Some people do not like second hand stores at all and do not think that there should be a place for them in Streator. Many people have talked bad about the store and want it closed. Some claim that Flips brings down the property values downtown. There has been calls for boycotts of the store. I think that some people really do prefer that the downtown buildings remain vacant. The overly restrictive ordinances limiting the ability of business to promote themselves also makes it hard on all businesses. However the selective enforcement of the ability to display merchandise outside and other actions by our City makes it clear that they would prefer that the store not exist. Thank You M for considering it something constructive, I'll let Chris know. It will be open starting tomorrow, Tuesdays thru Saturdays, 10:00-3:00, we'll see how that goes through August, after that the hours could be more sporadic. I don't see less people and less business for Streator as a good thing but some do, they are getting their way.
