The economic landscape has jobs with "livable" wages for those with the requisite skills...I know, that's no newsflash. These skills tend to be associated with high academics/proper training, discipline, perseverance, and delayed gratification. Factory/manufacturing jobs are disappearing overseas where they don't have to pay a knucklehead HS grad 30 dollars an hour with benefits along with dealing with a union. Stop complaining and commiserating about it...they're gone and they're not coming back.
If you are a parent, PUSH your kids to be successful in school. Help them to find their personal gifts and abilities and try to point them in a direction where they can take care of themselves when they become adults. You don't have to be rich to be happy, but you DO need to be able to make enough money to be independent of the government handouts that kill personal initiative and deaden ambition.
The jobs of the future will require waaaaaaay more education and personal get-up-and-go than you currently see in our population.
Whether you are an 18-30 year-old or a parent with kids in school...good luck. Be one of the winners and/or help your kids be winners. It's gonna' take a lot of hard work, help from teachers and mentors, and education and training.
Closing down schools, running off teachers, cutting absolutely critical social programs, and a voting/working public generally not facing the fiscal facts here in Illinois point to an increasing climate of helplessness and hopelessness in this state. Try to move to another state, if possible...it's not going to get better here for another generation at least, IMO.

I appreciate your kind words, but I'm just a wordy and opinionated old man. Wanna' talk about talent? Can you recall when Ted Weber was on the local radio station in years past? I thought he was a fabulous talent and on a par with any talk show hosts and journalists out there.
Whatever happened to him? I understand he owns that gorgeous Tudor property by Northlawn.

Wish I knew where Ted was, we had a few drinks together from time to time at the Oakly Inn in the past years, Ted was a great Radio talk host, and had the perfect voice for it also.

When parents again realize that they are key to the futures of their children, our society will again become competitive. And when our childrens futures are made better, so will the futures of their parents & all of our society.
