"A STREATOR resident turned the Streator Community Center..a not-for-profit organization.. in for showing FREE movies in the City Park."
WHY ... would somebody DO that to a group that has done so much for the citizens of Streator?

I have a guess but no proof as to who it was. Yes, the movie's are still under copyright but it does seem a bit over the top. Feel bad for the kids not getting to enjoy the shows.

It really is the pot calling the kettle black. Complains because people don't patronize downtown, how things need to be done to attract people to Streator, and when there is an event that people can do so, does what he/she can to ruin it or make it difficult. Maybe a grudge because someone's business is thriving and appreciated and his/her's isn't? Maybe he/she has hard feelings because Miss Malnar went to the city in the proper form and they are working with her to provide this community event. Wonder how long it will take for same person to twist this around in a way to blame the city leaders for lack of use of the city park or pavilion? I am sure that it will be quite a majestic post.

Does anyone else find it highly suspicious that it was a movie event at City Park that was targeted?
I know many churches have had youth movie nights for their parishoners, schools have had student/parent movie nights, Katchewan has a weekly movie night for it's campers. But yet it took an public movie showing at City Park for the movie heads to get a complaint? I wonder why these other events were never complained about? Sure sounds like someone who has insider knowledge of contacts w/in the motion picture industry and an ax to grind to me.

Even though I have had run-ins with the suspected person, I prefer to give him the benefit of doubt. In regards to the specific topic here, we have discussed copyright issues on here before and they take it very seriously. Streator Community Center does a great job for the community and it is a shame that someone would turn them in. I hope they get everything straightened out soon.

Thank you Streator Community Center for doing so many great things for our community. Activities and guidence for the kids in our community is a very good thing but I really appreciate the events like these movies that bring people downtown (particularly when it's for something other than to get drunk). The more good people that are in our downtown at any one time helps my causes.
These shows do absolutely nothing to compete with or hurt me in any way. Even when I was running the Majestic, and these type of events competed with us for family entertainment, we supported them. Last year after Cruise Night, I took a bunch of left over glow necklaces to one of their shows to do with as they wanted.
It certainly was not me that contacted anyone about their shows.
I do know that there used to be a high level film company employee who had a residence just north of Streator. There are others that certainly would have much more of a motive for something like this.
I know that the film companies are vigilant on trying to catch people violating their rights, there are strict warnings on almost all of their product. I've known the FBI to investigate violations before. Read that warning on the beginning of your BluRay/DVD sometime. A theatre employee can get $500 for calling the police on you for videotaping in the theatre; they even provide theatres a copy of the state law to show the officers.
It is a shame, just another example of the greed of corporate America, in my opinion. We are talking about media conglomurates with executives making excessive amouts, who are now saving about a half a million each time they release a movie, putting the cost of the digital conversion on theatre owners/moviegoers. Many places where they didn't have donations to pay for all of the digital conversion, they raised prices to help pay for it. Film rental being a percentage of ticket prices means even more money for the studios. Many communities are loosing their theatre over these corporations' greed, some were long time family owned operations.
Do you think that they could give some free showings to a non-profit that does a lot of good for our community? Hell no!
In case you haven't guessed, I have great disdain for these companies.
darkdukes & cmon's accusations are just more of the bogus attacks on me that I am used to. If they really think that I would help Hollywood make any more money, they are crazy.

Now that is funny gg. It is clearly bothering him that nobody cares to discuss his cause. That being said I think it was wrong to come on here an insinuate that he was the one to turn in the CC. He is one of the few that lets us know who he is. A lot of people know who I am and it doesn't bother me because I would not say anything here that I would not say to anyone in person. Kyle it was wrong of others to indicate that you were the one to turn in CC but it is wrong of you to insinuate on your thread that MM might be someone we all know as well.

Do you think he or anyone else would realy admit that they were the 'one'. What a pathetic excuse for a human being....this person is. Who really care what goes on in Ho dunk Streator, and a few movies during the summer certainly cant be to harmful..and we arent the ONLY community that does this. Is this same person going to turn in the other small ho dunk farm communities that have this same practice? We shall see. Now that is funny gg. It is clearly bothering him that nobody cares to discuss his cause. That being said I think it was wrong to come on here an insinuate that he was the one to turn in the CC. It usually takes one bad apple to ruin a good thought. Showing a free movie is not a big deal for some one to have to make it a big deal. Am I going to have a law suit if I rented a movie from Family video and have friends over to watch? Or does it come down to that someone is not making any form of money? I think it was a good attempt on the community center to try to provide something to do.
