I'm not sure, but I think city hall closes at one every Friday. Some kind of union deal maybe!

It says in the paper that it is the heat schedule until further notice.
I applaud them for coming up with a solution to the A/C problem at City Hall without it costing tax payers $800,000.00.
The Canale building/former City Hall seems to be available still, with A/C, and for just a small fraction of that cost.

$800,000.00 for a ac unit? Kinda pricey don't you think? Should only cost about $80,000.00 to replace the unit. That includes labor.

So did they actually come up with a fix? (city hall A/C) I am glad they are at least responsible enough to NOT pursue a $800,000 'fix'. Some government spending is absolutely ridiculous, and the higher up you go, the worse it is. Too bad they don't put more control back to local levels like our municipality and school boards, and THEN hold them accountable for their decisions. I monitor some online auctions for government surplus items. It is amazing what they sell off. Some barely used, some totally used up in just a few years(nearly anything from Chicago is abused badly) and other stuff is pretty ancient. I figure part of my tax dollars goes to purchasing this stuff, I might as well be able to buy some of it back for pennies on the dollar. It's my understanding this has been an on-going problem since it was built!?!? Why hasn't the contractor fixed it?

They've been closing at 1 on Fridays for quite a while now (and I doubt it's because of the heat, regardless of what the paper says)....this isn't just a recent thing.

Will your gun be taken away during Obama's Presidency? 2. Will there be a revolution before the next Presidential election? 3. Will "black helicopeter land" and all/or any of your Constitutional Rights be taken away. 4. Will Martial Law come to Streator? 5.Will there be a "economic collape" and we have to resort to using only gold, silver, or a barter system as "currency". My anser is: None of the above will happen. These are predictions that you have made in the past. Keep a goin' though. g

When I worked for a city, we could do four 10 hr days and then choose if you wanted Friday or Monday off. I chose Monday to beat the crowds in the Summertime to the near by lakes. We had those places almost to ourselves on Monday.

I agree dd and toshiko, Mondays off are nice when Sunday is another nice rest day, so two in a row is a plus.

Having a 3 day week-end was nice. I got used to the longer hours in a few weeks. Then, after a few years, new management and *poof*....No more four days work weeks. ever.

It is nice for the workers, but is it serving the public better? Isn't that why they are there? Yes, they should pay all of the employees OT to be there, just in case honestpolitician shows up one Friday afternoon. Apparently, opening at 8, and staying open till 5:30, m-th meets more customers needs. Except for that one Friday that hp showed up for the first time, on a Fri afternoon.
