2 Blocks East of the Hospital and a block or Two South, going down the dip to the Creek. It's on the East side, used to be a canning factory way back before Tuscarora. Vermillion St. is correct. My older brother worked there one summer canning corn (Sweet Sue brand?) on the graveyard shift to make $$ for college.

Arson suspected in Streator blaze
Dan Churney, danc@mywebtimes.com, 815-431-4050 | Posted: Monday, April 21, 2014 7:27 pm
Arson is suspected in a fire that occurred early Saturday in Streator.
Fire damaged the office area of the former Tuscarora Plastics plant at 701 S. Vermillion St. Streator Fire Capt. Scott Orban said arson is believed to be the cause, as there were no utilities hooked to the structure. Firefighters were at the scene from 2 to 5:30 a.m. The fire-damaged office was demolished as a safety measure because the fire made it unstable.
Former Livingston County Sheriff Marty Meredith is the owner, having recently bought the property for a pallet business. Damage was estimated to be $50,000. Police and the fire departments were continuing to investigate as of Monday.
The cause of a fire that gutted a house late Thursday night at 610 E. Elm St. remained under investigation as of Monday, but Orban said that fire is not related to the Tuscarora fire.

The fire-damaged office was demolished as a safety measure because the fire made it unstable. That's downright funny... Why haven't they made the owner of the house on Cotton Street demolish it?...It burned last year, and has sat 100% untouched since then...Not only is it a safety concern, it's blighting the neighborhood and decreasing property values...

I would guess because the owner took responsibility in this case, had he not I would guess the property would've sat untouched like many around town do.

BUMP.............. So, Tuscarora was deemed arson..but what about 610 East Elm Street though? I'd like to keep close to this subject because they're the ones that assumed they were above and beyond "many" laws. In fact when I was attacked by 2 German shepherds when I was walking...THAT'S what house they did belong to. UGH................... M

That family moved into the Town and Country AFTER the fire, not before. A child that lived there rides my son's bus, and the bus driver started picking up the boy out there after the place burned. I know this because the driver picks him up right before my son gets picked up...at least from all appearances anyway, and according to my kiddo. My son also said that the boy told him (they're friends) that his mother fell asleep with a cigarette apparently and that's what caused the fire, I just know what I'm told...Yes M, I am aware that's your neck of the woods, so you'd probably know a bit more than I do, but I do know that they were out at the hotel after the fire...
No offense, and this is just a thought, but if you're that interested in it, why not ask an official or something? Wouldn't that be public info? Really, I don't know if it would or not. And I understand that the dogs that attacked you belonged to this house, but that's a bit irrelevant to this. Not trying to be a pain in theassor sound like a b!tch, just asking questions is all. It's also possible that there could be more than one family living in that house, it is a big house, correct? I know good and well that particular area you're in has more than one house with more than one family living in it. May not particularly include Elm St, but I know for fact that just a block south on Hickory, there are 3 houses that are like this. And you're right, those dogs probably do belong to someone in that house. All I'm saying it, aww hell I don't even remember now, I got off the subject.
Before anyone says anything else, no I'm not making light of M's situation and no I don't know this kid (I've met him once) or his family.

Actually they were at the town and country the night of the fire, that is where they were found by the PD, no one was at the residence when the fire department arrived.

Before anyone says anything else, no I'm not making light of M's situation and no I don't know this kid (I've met him once) or his family. JADED.......we know this family, and YES were informed by an "official" the night OF the fire that they all were not at home at the time, and were staying at the Town & Country Inn, because during the fire don't you THINK that perhaps all of the "officials" here were talking to the neighbors outside worried about IF this couple, four children, and two dogs might happen to be INSIDE still? n "official" confirmed that to us all. Pretty ironic that one of the neighbor kids texted the one son to SEE where he was at, and then the kid asked if what was on fire was upstairs in a certain bedroom, which WAS ........ hmmmm....things that make me go...hmmm.........how'd he know THAT from the Town & Coumtry Inn room? "sounds" pretty preached to me, eh?? After about an hour of the SFD battling this blaze, the family did show up...all calm, cool, and collective............ HUH?? NOW seriously if I was gone from my house and found out it was on fire...I would be ballistic!!! Soooooooo............ I guess that the family is still staying out at the T&C Inn...perhaps awaiting some biga$$ settlement from the insurance company, would be my guess. Apparently patiently awaiting their 75K loss of electronic equipment, which I CAN NOT begin to imagine, plus the whole loss of the house, and property then too. The dad/ "boyfriend of the month club".....whatever that dude is, is a loose wire trying to get booze @ 3 am, he has a verbal trespass warning now to never return to that place...hmmm...a lil impatient, is he?? What I feel so sorry for are the kids, what kind of environment have they been subjected to just sickens me. Oh yeah and who stole our neighbors basketball hoop and lugged it down to the recyling center WERE these kids...................... Something best come out of this whole situation! M
