I notice that like others, 007 has no points to stand behind and defend against the things that I have to say, but just doesn't want others to hear about it.
I don't think that he understands the concept of the "beating a dead horse" saying. The horse is not dead at all. The newspaper pointed out that the problems I have been talking about for years are still problems, nothing has been resolved, they don't even seem to have a plan to correct the problems. The Mayor said that he would love to have more officers on the street, but that we can not afford it (it seems that they think we can afford a City Hall renovation though) and didn't offer any other solutions. He has worked to stop conversation of solutions to these problems.
I don't feel that talking about improvements that a citizen wants for his community should have any limit as to how many times it can be discussed, particularly for an election, the only time every two years that we have any type of real say as to what happens in our City. I feel that it is our duty as citizens to ask for solutions to the problems that we see, instead of just letting them continue year after year. I believe strongly from my experience of trying to promote a family entertainment venue here, that Streator's rough reputation and these on-going problems absolutely do hurt business in our community.
What is it that the Mayor, 007, and many others on here have against open conversations about solutions to reducing the number of bar violence incidents? Is there any down side to reducing the number of these negative incidents? I have to wonder what is in allowing these incidents to continue for them.

Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear."
[Special Message to the Congress on the Internal Security of the United States, August 8, 1950] Harry S. Truman
Tags: censorship, dissent, freedom-of-speech, opposition, politics, repression"
Me thinks the principle holds true in almost any venue.

I sincerely hope someone with better writing skills than I possess write a letter to the editor of the Times-Press and thank him for his generosity and belief in the City of Streator. P.S. I also hope this Thread dies. How did that work out for you?

A dozen threads bumped to the top with just a period, this thread pushed to page two, and no spam in sight.
Is the maskedmarvel protecting SO from spam or trying to protect Streator from the free speech of what does happen here?
I think he has a disdain for free speech. Is that you behind the mask Mayor Lansford?

"We shut down his business, and he was seeking revenge," Wrighton said. "It happens everywhere."
I hope that it wasn't his experience in shutting down businesses that made our Mayor not even advertise the position to see what other choices were available. I wonder how many businesses he plans to shut down here. Is shutting down businesses in the job description, is that what we pay him so much for? I think our City government should work on fostering a good business environment, not shutting them down.
